Sunday night dinner in the city centre
Five Flies offers supper on a Sunday
Sunday nights are quiet in the city centre, many restaurants are closed and it can be a bit of a struggle to find somewhere nice to eat. So next time you reach the end of the week and aren’t quite ready to call it a weekend yet visit the historical Five Flies on Keerom Street.
The 200-seater restaurant is made up of private dining rooms, a bar that opens out onto a courtyard, as well as a cigar lounge and bar upstairs. The two buildings that make up this restaurant are a national monument; the old historical feel has been maintained with a lighter, modern touch. The food has also been updated with the chef bringing a lightness to the sauces and introducing an Asian influence.
Chef, Greg Baverstock, suggests trying the smoked salmon with pickled beetroot, yoghurt dressing and soy caviar to start. Then for dessert try the white chocolate and honeycomb cheesecake with dried apricot nougat, pistachio, sour cherry coulis and popcorn foam. We tried the salmon and can highly recommend it.
