The best cocktail bar in Cape Town, fable, also has the best specials. Like daily happy hours (up to 33% off of some of their best sellers) and 50% off of classic cocktails for women on Wednesdays (some classics are just R40). And happy hour includes plenty of specials on food too, like 20% off a double patty smashburger.

DAILY COCKTAIL HAPPY HOURS  

It really is the best in the city. The cocktail bar on Bree, which was named as a top 10 honouree by Tales of the Cocktail for the best cocktail bar and best bar team in the Middle East and Africa, is known for their outrageously inventive signature cocktails. 

Some of their most popular signatures are on the happy hour menu. Like the one with the paintbrush (you stir with a paintbrush dipped in edible glitter and it turns a different colour), which is 18% off at R115. Or the castle of good hope (Don Julio Blanco, peach and lemon topped with Fanta Grape foam), 33% off at R115.  

There’s classic cocktails on there too, starting from just R65, like the moscow mule, dark and stormy, and pimm’s cup. 

Happy hour at fable is every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5pm to 7pm; Fridays and  Saturdays from 4:30pm to 7pm; and all day Sunday (fable is closed on Mondays).

EVEN FOOD HAPPY HOURS 

Food at fable is just as curious as their cocktails, and the happy hour menu includes many of their best dishes. Like the smashburger with two patties (20% off at R80) and their most popular dish, which is just R60 during happy hour. It’s the popcorn chicken: Bite-sized fried chicken pieces which you put into a cocktail shaker, sprinkle with seasoning (sour cream and chives, chilli and lime, or citrus barbeque), and shake. 

There’s also cauli bites (cornflake-crumbed cauliflower deep fried and tossed in hot honey and soy sauce), hummus and flatbread, and panko-crusted olives stuffed with feta.

FREE STARTERS, 50% OFF COCKTAILS   

They’ve also got a date night special on Tuesdays. From 7pm to 10pm, you can get a free welcome drink and snack with your order. 

And women get 50% off all classic cocktails from 7pm to 10pm on Wednesdays. The classic menu has all the drinks you know and love, with some little-known choices like the paper plane (Woodford Reserve, Aperol, amaro nonino and lime) and el diablo (Espolon Tequila Blanco, crème de cassis, lime and ginger soda). 

The classics start from R80, which means on Women’s Wednesdays, some are just R40. We bet you never thought you’d get a good cocktail for that price at fable on Bree Street.
