Karoo Disclosure Art Exhibition in Cape Town
A collaborative exhibition that showcases the deeply contentious environmental issues caused by fracking
South Africa (and the Western Cape) is rich with unique natural resources, but the environment is currently being threatened (arguably) by possible fracking in sensitive eco-systems. Delving into the relationship between land, culture and fracking, the collaborative art project Karoo Disclosure explores this at the Iziko South African Museum from now until Sunday, 15 November 2015.
One of the first projects to come out of the collective, the focus is on stimulating debate about the possible shale-gas extraction that will occur in our country. The exhibition comes at a time when the local government has agreed to let a large corporation enter the Karoo to commence fracking despite the huge public outcry over the decision. The highlight of the exhibit is the film Karoo Disclosure which gained acclaim when it showed at the Karoo Indy Film Festival.
Running until November, the exhibition is open to the public and contains many of the photographs, objects and art used in the original installation.
