Bafana Bafana versus Angola at the Cape Town Stadium

Youth Day celebrations go international as two African nations face off

Bafana Bafana will take on the Sable Antelopes from Angola on Tuesday, 16 June 2015, right here at the Cape Town Stadium. The international friendly match will kick off on Youth Day at 3pm, so take out your green and yellow shirts and dust off your vuvuzela - Our Boys (roughly translated from the words 'Bafana Bafana') need your support.

Bafana Bafana is currently ranked 69 in the world, whereas Angola sits at 88, according to the latest FIFA world rankings. This year, South Africa has played five matches, losing two and drawing three, while Angola has only played one match, which they lost 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire.

The history of the two teams’ matches suggests that another win is in store for Bafana Bafana as South Africa has yet to lose against Angola. The two teams have met nine times since 1996, of which South Africa have won four and drawn five. Their last clash took place at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013, out of which hosts South Africa emerged victorious by two goals to none.

Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Tourism, Events and Economic Development, Councillor Garreth Bloor says: “As hosts, we welcome the Angolan team together with their many supporters to our city, and we call on all Capetonians to take a collective stand against xenophobia.”
