End-Of-Year Party Ideas To Pitch To Your Boss

Outdoor adventure, wine tastings, a cultural food tour + more

Last Updated: 13 July 2022

What a year! With vaccine rollouts and the world slowly nearing a new normal, it's been quite a rollercoaster of a year. What better way to end 2021 off than with a memorable year-end team party. With some one-of-a-kind venues, adventurous fun to bring out your inner child and office-function ideas that keep the Covid-19 precautions in mind, this year end function will be one for the books.

Take part in the kind of challenge that bonds any type of team, no matter what kind of year you've had. In HintHunt’s escape games you are locked in a room and challenged to escape in 60 minutes or less. Think the thrill of Mission Impossible with the laughs of 30 Second. You must try two new escape rooms Escape Plan and Torpedo (there are 5). And because the venue is at the V&A Waterfront and closes late (last game slot at 8.30am), it is the perfect after-dinner adrenaline kick for an end of year celebration.

Book online: at
Cost: R590 - R1,650 (depending on size of team)

Scootours also does a longer, mid-week special, and both options include a guide, equipment and a complimentary glass of wine. Plus, you can work from the farm, eat a lekker boerebraai lunch, and add an archery session when booking.

How to book: Website
Cost: Scootours Flow Trail from R290 pp; lunch from R265 pp; archery from R180 pp; Scootours mid-week special is R500 pp

End-of-year parties don’t have to be a schlep to organise. Because Bar Keeper, Cape Town’s seamless service liquor store, delivers ice cold in an hour (that’s if you’re within a 6km radius). It is open for trade every day of the week, 364 days a year (it’s closed on Christmas Day). And because it has a van for deliveries, not only  a scooter, you can get anything from a few bottles of wine to many cases of booze.

How to order: Browse in store, or order on the seamless website for pick-up or deliviry
Cost: Varies

Segways will get the entire team excited. What’s awesome about them is that they move intuitively with your body, which you’ll learn to do in a 30-minute lesson at the start. Once you’ve mastered this, there’s the whole of Spier to explore – imagine gliding through glowing green vineyards, 360° views of mountains. If the team loves a bit of rivalry, opt for the Segway Soccer activity, which ends with a soccer “shoot-out”. If the entire crew is not convinced, there are numerous great activities, from spa treatments to picnicking and wine tasting, that have been paired with Segway Tours.

Pitch it to your boss: This is active, but not sweaty-active, plus it’s adaptable for the whole team (and there’s the best wines to taste afterwards).

If the best way to get your colleagues to gel is through an activity, here’s another idea: an epic road trip through Cape Town. Kiff Kombi Tours is perhaps the city’s ultimate company year-end experience as it’s so much fun, but chilled at the same time. The Gin Jol, Craft Beer Safari and Wine, Beer & Biltong Safari that takes you from Cape Town to picturesque Stellenbosch are recommended. These offer fun activities such as clay-shooting, paintball and bubble soccer. However, you can also custom-make a tour.

Pitch it to your boss: Kiff Kombis is all about good vibes, plus it’s as active or chilled as you want it to be. Get your bosses in the mood, let them watch this video of Kiff Kombis’ one-of-a-kind tours .

Make it magical and exploratory, with this maritime experience. The state-of-the-art Two Oceans Aquarium accommodates big (1000 guests) and small (25 guests) teams. Host a sit-down dinner just metres away from ragged-tooth sharks or let the jellyfish fascinate your guests during a walkabout cocktail party, it’s your pick at Two Oceans Aquarium.
Pitch it to your boss: There are different packages to fit various budgets. These can include catering, evening tours, bar staff and even recommendations for entertainers.
