Afrika Ablaze 2011
Afrika Ablaze presents Dancers Don’t Cry!
A Dynamic Western Cape based dance company established in 1999 by Glenda Jones, the dancers are from diverse backgrounds and the choreography focuses on African and Global Rhythms like Kwaito, Hip Hop, Latin, Cabaret, Rock and Roll, Contemporary, African Jazz, Belly and Creative Expressions.
Every child who joins up with Afrika Afrika Ablaze gets to perform on stage, irrespective of shape, colour or ability. Special attention is given to cultivating and enhancing natural dancing, singing and acting talents.
Dancers Don’t Cry is a dance drama that explores the woes and wonders of the dance world, as it transports audiences from stylish dance studios to the crude backyard of a slum, to the sophistication of a theatre performance and to dancing in the streets.
It tells the story of an angry boy who hates the world, a rich boy who thinks he owns the world, and a young dance teacher who is dying to change the world.
To add fuel to the powerful storyline, 4 exceptionally talented young dancers will be stepping out as choreographers.
It is a show that promises to educate dynamically, entertain spectacularly and touch the hearts of many who get to see it.
"You have made me proud of the youth of South Africa. I thank you for dancing so beautifully and making my day. I will never forget this moment.” Nelson Mandela - Gateway to Robben Island
