Potted Potter: the unauthorized Harry Potter experience at Theatre on the Bay
This worldwide smash hit theatre parody enchants audiences in Camps Bay
In a Rowling-like magical (broom) sweep of laughs and fun, Potted Potter, the award-nominated West End play, condenses seven Harry Potter books into 70 spellbinding minutes at the Theatre on The Bay from Tuesday, 8 January 2013 to Saturday, 26 January 2013. Written by drama mavericks Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner, the hilarious parody zooms through the mythical saga, from battles with dragons to appearances by the legendary Voldemort to a real-life quidditch match, with madcap energy and a near magical penchant for costume changes.
The British duo, who met by chance and became fast collaborators, started off at the Edinburgh Fringe festival and have gone on to sell out shows from London to New York.
Past reviewers have given the performance two thumbs up, saying, “If you’re a stand-up comedy fan, you’re gonna love it! If you’re into dragons and draughty corridors, you’re gonna love it! Don’t know what a Horcrux or a Hufflepuff is? You’re still gonna love it!”
Needless to say, while the play is the perfect family-friendly entertainment option for those new to Potter mania, it’s also a welcome performance for Potter addicts eager to revisit and to laugh about their favourite moments or characters in the beloved series.
