Val de Vie Cup of Nations Invitational Polo Classic
Prepare yourself for a stylish and sophisticated equestrian affair in the Paarl Winelands
Rub shoulders with the elite at the 2014 Cup of Nations Invitational Polo Classic, a regal tournament and haute couture soiree billed to take over Val de Vie Estate in the Paarl Valley on Saturday, 29 March 2014.
This equestrian event sees South African celebs and socialites (and sometimes the odd polo enthusiast) soak up the sun while teams on horseback go head to head in a series of two-hour games. The tournament pits the Mzansi squad against the Dutch, Pakistani and British teams in what promises to be a riveting competition.
What’s more, while watching the horses in action, guests can mingle with Mzansi’s style icons, enjoy the sounds of a local live band, ogle sleek machinery at a Maserati car show or browse through the luxury goods on sale. Aside from all this and tons of polo fun, the elegant afternoon also features a light lunch with complimentary drinks.
Created by the Persians thousands of years ago with the first recorded match happening some time in 600 BC, the game of polo sees four members per side on horseback, each armed with long-handled mallets, try to score by striking an air-filled ball past their opponent’s goal posts (think hockey, but on horses).
