February events in Cape Town and the Western Cape

Yes, February is the month of lurve, but there’s plenty more to do besides kissing

It’s 'Feb', the month for more music and theatre events and time on the beach. There are a good selection of events happening in Cape Town and surrounds.

Our selection of February events you don’t wanna miss

Every February, Up the Creek Music Festival is a 3-day event that is packed with the cream of African music. In a fantastic setting on the banks of the Breede River (about 3 hours drive from Cape Town), indulge in sunshine, swimming and partying. Limited tickets are available which keeps this event intimate.

Experience a Hands-on Harvest Festival in the Robertson Wine Valley, a boutique wine harvesting event that offers you the magical harvest-experience for a day. The best grapes for the new South African white wines are harvested at the end of summer and many people actively participate in harvesting events at  different wine estates in the Robertson Valley.

The Nelson Mandela 27 for Freedom Race is a tribute to the 27 years that Nelson Mandela spent as a political prisoner and commemorates the 22nd anniversary of his release. So put on those running shoes and be a part of something truly celebratory of South Africa’s history.

The Community Chest is one of the greatest annual, family charity events in the Southern Suburbs. Who could resist days filled with all kinds of fun activities, live music, jazz evenings and great food at the Maynardville Community Chest Carnival. All proceeds go to the Community Chest, which supports over 500 social welfare organisations throughout the Western Cape.

Take part in the Pride Pageant and party at the Pride Parade during the Cape Town Pride Festival, at the end of February. It’s a celebration of Cape Town's wonderful diversity and also creates awareness of issues impacting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex communities, locally and throughout Africa. With Cape Town being the gay capital of Africa, this is your playground.

Another entertainment and sports event in February is the Cape Town 10’s Rugby Tournament. Rugby is, where the hearts of many South African men (and women) are. Watch the 'big bojtjies' on the field and at the bar, every January at Hamilton’s Rugby Club. It’s gunna be a big one.

And, of course... buy some roses for your loved one(s)... it’s Valentines Day. The 14th of February gives you a reason to look for those romantic spots and cosy restaurants for a Valentines Dinner. Subscribe to our free newsletter for a substantial overview of things to do on Valentines Day.

And, don’t miss out on the Opening of Parliament which takes place every February in Cape Town. Every year we give you the road closures during the opening of Parliament.
