CapeTownMagazine.com is looking for a strong, structured talented content producer for its online magazine; covering all areas across the magazine.  The role largely includes partner/client generated pieces, therefore a high standard of writing is a must.

Do you love creating content about a wide diversity of things to do in Cape Town? Do you have passion for writing content and connecting with people? Are you an absolute geek in your passion for spreading content created for online media, from websites, to newsletters and from Twitter to Facebook? Do you have an interest in how to connect it to SEO results? Do you have the ability to work on a number of different projects at the same time?

This job offers an opportunity to work at a fast-paced online media company.

The ideal candidate will have a well-developed interest in writing and online media, and would have studied something related, a good understanding of SEO and common practice around it. Good knowledge of content creation for online, and the elements that come with it. As well some experience in Photoshop. Knowledge of driving content through social media channels is recommendable. 

The position requires you to have a solid work ethic as well as to be eager, organised, able to stick to tight deadlines, be flexible with workflows and a passion for what you do, and the City of Cape Town. If this sounds like you, apply below. 

Responsibilities

  • Sourcing and researching content, events and what’s happening for a wide audience

  • Writing engaging content for our partners across all the content pillars in the online mag

  • Client interfacing and interviewing

  • Interacting with clients on a daily basis in order to ensure that they are happy with their final result

  • Planning updates on events features from a SEO perspective 

  • Coming up with strong efficient ways to grow events, content and readership

  • Creating content that isn’t only relevant to Cape Town but includes surrounding areas as well

  • Planning and strategising with the team to come up with exciting and relevant content in the magazine


Requirements

• Strong command of the English language
• Excellent writing skills
• Good knowledge of search engine optimisation (SEO)
• The ability to research content timeously and accurately
• Working knowledge of social media channels
• Excellent telephone etiquette
• Basic knowledge of Photoshop and the ability to work creatively
• Able to work to tight deadlines

CapeTownMagazine.com is looking for a dynamic online editor looking to make a mark; a person with a passion for storytelling, a love for the Mother City and an obsession with online. The position is geared at someone who will be excited to take our methodologies and emotive brand to the next level. You should love to investigate different angles, to create excitement for our readers and people outside the in-crowd. You are a firecracker – someone with a strong personality who isn’t afraid to make big content decisions and who doesn’t back down from a challenge. Besides that you are an editing  guru – someone who’s not only meticulous about grammar, spelling, style, formatting and fact-checking, but also enjoys re-crafting stories on a daily basis. One of your primary duties will be sub/ copy-editing. Our new online editor needs to thrive in a deadline-driven environment, have a knack for generating brilliant content quickly, understand the role of social media in the online publishing industry and take pleasure in generating editorial idea after idea, enabling, coaching and grooming a team as well as a city. We also want someone who knows the ins and outs of SEO and Google Analytics.

Duties: To map and roll out our mission and vision of Unwrapping Cape Town and enabling exciting discoveries around the corner for our readers locally and globally.

  • Commissioning and editing content (from articles, captions to social) as required on a day-to-day basis

  • Proofreading content (articles, captions, social posts)

  • Planning for and driving content team’s creative output by leading creative/planning meetings

  • Creating ‘best of class' content that is SEO optimised

  • Ensure that format, style and design elements are consistent and correct. Check facts against source material, doing independent research as needed.

  • Pushing in-house and freelance content creators to excellence by hitting brand bulls eye

  • Ensuring that copy is in line with CapeTownMagazine.com’s style and brand values

Requirements

  • An industry relevant tertiary qualification

  • A minimum of two years in an online/digital editorial position in the magazine or media industry

  • Fluent in English, written and spoken

  • SEO knowledge

  • Experience in online publishing tools and technologies, with knowledge of Google Analytics

  • Experience in content management systems is an advantage

  • Computer literacy: Word, Excel, Internet/Intranet, basic HTML, basic Photoshop

  • Valid driver's licence

  • A beyond nine-to-five mindset

Personal Skills/Attributes

  • Strong editor and copy editor with meticulous attention to detail and factual accuracy

  • Proven journalistic experience and a solid understanding of research methods

  • Familiarity with and love for digital concepts and trends
