3 DAYS TO BOND WITH FAMILY, MAKE NEW FRIENDS
The Wolfie Familie Festival is an annual event. It’s geared specifically to kids, and much to everyone’s delight it’s back on the cards for February 2022. It’s a three-day festival over a weekend full of games, swimming in the river, bonfires and sleeping under the stars. The organisers set up fun parks, pop-up theatres, a garden of gentle animals, craft and other fun activities that will keep children well stimulated. There’s also a really cool initiative where kids can make goods and show and sell them at the festival.

YOU CAN DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT EVERY DAY
Each day is packed with cool new stuff to do. Friday’s programme starts at 9am when the fun park and animal garden opens. Some of the other things on the line-up include making a giant bubble, a fire show and kiddies’ movie.
Saturday kicks off with a Secret Sunrise Dance for the whole family at 7.30am, and the day includes a 2-kilometre trail run and a 100-metre swimming dash. There’ll be a mime, a juggler and other entertainers – something new happens almost every hour.
Sunday the fun goes on, but at a slower pace and brings everything to a close at 3pm. You can see the full weekend programme online.

PARENTS, YOU’LL GET A CHANCE TO REJUVENATE
There’ll also be live music, hikes, trail runs and other events geared to adults. This includes yoga, so parents will have time to rejuvenate and socialise, too. The Healing Daydream Wellness Spa will be on hand, so make sure to book a spot for some soothing pampering.
IN BETWEEN, HEAD TO THE RIVER
In between all the activity, you can always head for the river with your floaties, lilos, canoes and other water gear. Parents, remember to bring life jackets and inflatable armbands for your children. In fact, head to the super-useful prepping for Wolfie guide.

STAY IN A COOL TENT ON A CALM RIVER
The venue is only a two-hour drive from Cape Town, in Citrusdal. It’s a pretty and easy road trip that children of all ages will find manageable. The festival takes place on the banks of the Olifants River at Wolfkop Camping Villages.
Three accommodation options are available: 1) bring your own tent, bedding, cutlery, crockery and everything else and set up your own camp; 2) book one of the various tented options for groups, bedding is provided; 3) book the glamping option, accommodation under a stretch tent, with a kitchenette, lounge area, fire boma and a four-poster jetty on the river (but hurry – the revamped villas are almost fully booked already).

WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD?
The organisers say most families bring their own food, and there are dedicated braai zones with drums and grids, as well as communal fridges and kitchens. That said, there will be food vendors on site. Bring your own alcohol if you like, and there’ll also be a bar service running all weekend selling coffee, smoothies, juices, and water. There will also be ice for sale, so you can restock your cooler and keep the drinks ice cold.
