Join iconic Cape Town music group The Rockets for their annual picnic concert at the Paarl Afrikaans Taalmonument on Friday, 24 January 2020. The band, who have been around for over 50 years, will play classics such as ‘We Are All African People’ and their own renditions of songs like ‘Me And Mrs Jones’, ‘Stay The Night’ and more at this annual shindig.
ONE OF SOUTH AFRICA’S BIGGEST MUSICAL EXPORTS
The Rockets have 3 million+ kilometres of touring under their belt. The group has performed shows at the Concert In The Park, KKNK Rand Show, The Jazzathon and the Taliep Petersen Tribute Show.
SEE THE ROCKETS PERFORM AT THEIR 50-YEAR CELEBRATION
They have also performed in Australia, Bahrain, Morocco and Egypt and opened shows for artists like Usher, Alicia Keys and Luther Vandross. The group was recently honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Ghoemas, and has a long and successful recording career that dates back to 1976.
BYOB OR ORDER ONE READYMADE
You can bring your own drinks and picnic basket, or order one from the Volksmond restaurant on site. The Taalmonument has footpaths you can use to explore the area and there is also the Afrikaans Taalmuseum where you can learn about the history and diversity of the Afrikaans language. There’s a park for the kids and lots of space and soft grass to picnic on while watching the show.
GETTING INTO THE ICONIC SHOW
Tickets to the show cost R100 for adults, R50 for kids between the ages of three and 13 years and can be purchased online at Computicket.
