Rap Battles, Giveaways and Informative Talks at the Teachers Turn Up
Network the fun way with others in your industry at the teachers turn up at Unknown Union on Bloem Street
Who said teachers can’t get down and turn up? The Teachers Turn Up is being held at clothing store Unknown Union on Friday, 16 March from 5pm to 8pm, and promises to be something worth adding to the desk calendar.
The event is hosted by Dreamer Education, a group that helps bridge the gap between teachers and students through creative and innovative educational resources and training. Founder Kurt Minnaar has spoken about the initiative at a TEDtalk in Stellenbosch and has hosted a variety of other events as part of his efforts to change the way we think about education. But this time the focus is on connecting the teachers.
With the mission to have teachers share, connect and socialise while having a good time to equally good music, the Teachers Turn Up invites both teachers and student teachers to come together and enjoy themselves in a networking session with a vibe.
Dreamers Education plans to host the Turn Up every month with a different speaker at each event. This month it’ll be Dream Education founder Kurt introducing the event and chatting about the importance of connecting the teaching community. DJ Eazy from Good Hope FM will be on the decks, and teachers will be challenged to a dance off and rap battle to keep the fun atmosphere going.
If busting a move or a rhyme are one of your hidden talents, you may just get your hands on some prizes as Dreamer Education will be giving away some branded long-sleeve shirts and their CDs. Don’t fret, there’ll be wine to get the conversation flowing and light snacks to keep bellies from grumbling, too.
