Cape Town Tattoo-a-thon
Get inked for a good cause and support children living with cancer
The 2014 Cape Town Tattoo-a-thon is poised to go international on Friday, 6 June 2014 to raise funds for the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA after a successful 2012 inaugural event and a knock-out follow-up episode on the local front gained global recognition.
Now in its third year, the annual ink-fest is expanding its reach to Europe, where charitable ink-lovers can add to their growing collections and join in the crusade to fight childhood cancer at satellite studios across the continent.
Back home, the Tattoo-a-thon now boasts a growing number of participating tattoo parlours (48 and counting) in nine cities in major provinces around South Africa.
While the hope is to unite ink-lovers to raise much-needed funds to aid the non-profit organisation, project coordinator Jordan Gray explains that a core aim of the event is also to raise awareness about childhood cancer.
In its inaugural year the one-day body art drive managed to raise R70, 000; in 2013, after Johannesburg and Durban got on board, the Tattoo-a-thon made R250, 000; and this year, the tattoo marathon aims to beat its previous records and raise R750, 000.
HOW THE 2014 CAPE TOWN TATTOO-A-THON WORKS
- Simply select your artwork and make a booking at one of the participating Cape Town Tattoo-a-thon studios for Friday, 6 June 2014.
- The cost/donation for all tattoos is a fixed rate of R700p/p, and each artist has agreed to donate an hour of their time per tattoo (Note: Tattoos will be a set size based on one hour’s worth of work).
- Please note that if you have a tattoo that demands more than an hour’s work, you may be subject to additional costs and you may need to make an additional appointment for the artist to complete the job.
- Bookings are essential, and a deposit is required upon booking. There is a 24-hr cancellation grace period, after which your deposit will not be refunded.
- Strictly no under-18s (bring your ID for verification) and no tattooing of hands and feet.
- Alternatively, if you don’t think you’re ready to commit to a permanent tattoo, temporary ones will also be available at R10 each.
