Short and Sweet Summer Film Festival
The sizzling short film soiree that’s heating up the Mother City
Join hipsters, cinephiles and creative minds for the summer season of the Short & Sweet short film festival at the bespoke lifestyle centre It’s A House from Tuesday, 15 January 2013 until Tuesday, 7 May 2013. Now in its third year in Cape Town, the movie mosaic takes residence at the alternative creative space in De Waterkant for an extended season of Tuesday night viewings.
For those out of the loop, the mixed bag event offers audiences the rare chance to take in a range of tediously selected short films, animations and music videos in a single sitting. Though, what makes this creative fandango even more unique is that the line-up of films is never announced beforehand, a tactic that only adds to the nail-biting anticipation. Each week’s list is carefully curated and includes only the finest and, sometimes, never-been-seen footage of both well-known and up-and-coming directors. Films are no longer than 15 minutes, which means you get at least 8 to 10 flicks in an evening. This lucky-packet festival promotes innovation and celebrates talent while encouraging audiences to apply new filters to their views on life, love and everything in between.
And now, having teamed up with international arts and film school the SAE Institute, Short & Sweet is set to entertain, inspire and get those creative juices flowing more pointedly than ever before.
What’s more, It’s A House, an alternative work and event space aimed at promoting interaction among creatives, offers the perfect environment in which festival-goers can connect and network. The centre offers unconventional areas for work and play, boasts a welcoming ambience and inside, visitors can browse the young designers’ clothing range, grab a cup of coffee or hire the space for their own private purpose.
It’s A House also claims a fully-licensed bar (which will be open for the screenings) and serves a range of burgers, if the festival leaves you on the famished side.

About the Short & Sweet Film Festival
While working at an ad agency in London, Julia Stephenson sifted through thousands of directors’ show reels from across the globe and found a love for short-form cinema. Amazed that these highly imaginative films had little to no screen time, Julia founded the Short & Sweet short film festival in the UK in 2006. Now in its seventh year, the festival has expanded to present innovative films to audiences in Leeds, Bristol, Mumbai, Toronto, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Copenhagen and Melbourne.
