The Lumineers Concert in Cape Town
‘Ho Hey’ singers make their way to Mzansi to perform at the Cape’s botanical gardens this December!
Grammy Award-nominated US folk-rock act The Lumineers is scheduled to stop over in sunny South Africa for a two-show tour during the summer months. Bringing their raw, rootsy tunes to Cape Town (4 and 5 December) and Johannesburg (6 December), the quintet will provide the perfect soundtrack to usher in the holiday season.
The Cape Town show is scheduled to take place at the Mother City’s world-famous Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden so revelers can look forward to a vibey afternoon-into-evening concert surrounded by lush greenery.
The Lumineers first rose to fame in early 2012 after their infectious debut single, 'Ho Hey' became a global hit. After releasing their self-titled first album in mid-2012 and garnering two Grammy Award nominations for Best New Artist and Best Americana Album in 2013, the band quickly became one of the most in-demand musical acts. So it comes as no surprise then that the five-piece group has played to capacity crowds across the US, Europe and Australia.
Often compared to acts like the Avett Brothers and Mumford & Sons, the band draws inspiration from a diverse range of artists including Beethoven, Guns N' Roses, Talking Heads, Bruce Springsteen and, as drummer Jeremiah Fraite stated in an interview with online music publication ContactMusic.com, “cinematic music and anything strange and weird”.
Well whether or not “strange and weird” musical influences will help them win a coveted golden gramophone in the future remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure; The Lumineers has a dedicated fan following and South African admirers are likely to turn out in droves come December 2014.
