Weekday lunch at Andiamo
Lunchtime made deliciously easy: dine at this Italian institution’s deli or harvest table
Situated in the cobblestone courtyard of Green Point’s (old) Cape Quarter, an area now known as the Piazza, Andiamo Restaurant and Deli is just the spot for a busy-weekday lunch. The emphasis is on eating alfresco, and professionals on their break from work can enjoy a quick, healthy and delicious meal from the restaurant’s deli or harvest table. So even if you’re short on time, you don’t have to compromise on quality food.
Not to mention, in the way of inner city takeaways, Andiamo’s create-your-own salads, pastas and sandwiches couldn’t be better priced.
There’s a large array of breads and pastries - seed loaf, baguette, ciabatta as well as sausage croissants and pretzels - and plenty of toppings and ingredients to choose from, think quality cured meats such as Parma ham, bresola, coppa ham and prosciutto. The deli also stocks over 200 imported and local items, from marinated olives and artisan cheeses to anchovies and fresh greens. Or, patrons looking for something slightly heartier can try a ‘lunch pack’ filled with specialty pasta such as, bolognaise or carbonara.
The harvest table is adjacent to the deli and features a variety of buffet-style Mediterranean plates on a long wooden table. There are both hot and cold food options. The salads could include roasted butternut and feta, classic Greek, and chickpea and steamed vegetables. The hot offerings change daily, with dishes like beef kebabs, cottage pie, and chicken and date curry all making an appearance. Food at the harvest table is charged at R99 per kilogram.
After lunch indulge in one of the restaurant’s glorious coffees—a full-bodied, premium-roasted cuppa, or take a walk and check out the Andiamo Espresso bar in the new Cape Quarter lifestyle centre at the entrance to the Spar.
