Silver Mountain Music Festival
Music to match the beautiful scenery
Cape Town is famous for its mountains, and our music scene is just as amazing. To celebrate music, the Silver Mountain Music Festival is taking place at Grootvadersbosch Conservatory from Thursday, 15 to Sunday, 18 June 2017. Savour a weekend away from the big city while enjoying the magnificent music and breathtaking mountain views this festival has to offer.
With four different concerts taking place over the four days, there are plenty of opportunities to experience real music amongst real natural beauty. These concerts will be hosted by Richard Cock, and will be mixed into the programme with wine tastings, a nature walk, a mountain bike race, Youth Day celebrations and even a guided dairy tour and milk tasting, led by an actual dairy farmer.
The festival will open with Samson Diamond on Thursday, 15 June 2017, performing String Trios by Beethoven and Kodaly at the Schoone Oordt Country House in Swellendam. The following evening (Friday, 16 June 2017) will see a sophisticated music affair with a violin-piano duet at Strawberry Hill Farm, very close by to the Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve. During the day on Saturday, 17 June you’ll be treated to a magical music experience in a farm shed in the mountains with the Cape Town orchestra. You will also see a percussion concert with Magda de Vries and Samson Diamond at Honeywood Farm, a real working honey farm! There will also be a nature walk with Professor Coert Geldenhuys. The final concert on Sunday, 18 June 2017 will be a choir and orchestra event in Heidelberg.
The weekend will also feature events that intend to hero aspects about the various locations across the festival, including foodie events, hiking tours, and other activities that you can look forward to.
