Mother City music lovers can celebrate coming out of hibernation at the first ever Park Acoustics Cape Town concert on Saturday, 14 September 2013, which features a set from the ever awesome Desmond and the Tutus. The outdoor show series has been a monthly must-attend at Fort Schanskop, Pretoria, and organisers hoping to make this a staple for Capetonians are testing the waters in Shelley Park in Salt River with shows in September, October and November.
The little-known urban greenway at the foot of Devil’s Peak is ideal for these monthly outdoor events, which pride themselves on bringing relaxed, intimate concerts set against the backdrop of breathtaking nature, and friends and families are invited to come along with a picnic basket and enjoy a great day out. The inaugural event kick-starts with a no-holds-barred line-up of brilliant bands, including some Kwela-indie from Desmond and the Tutus, pure punk from The Dollfins and eclectic harmonies from Bateleur. Not to mention, things are bound to get really groovy with electro jam sets from DJ Michael Lesar and Balkanology’s Maoriginal.
Though revelers are welcome to bring their own booze and snacks, a cash bar and food stalls will be available to satisfy the hungry and thirsty; plus, for those who want to soak up all the culture they possibly can, there will be an art expo to add to the colourful atmosphere. Since the folks at Park Acoustics have Jack Daniels as part of their family, the first 50 fans arriving at the concert with a fine Tennessee whiskey product in hand will receive exclusive merchandise for being so darn rock ‘n’ roll.
So come one and come all, because as every Capetonian knows, this city was made for music in the great outdoors.
