For a unique live music event go to the The Guitar Summit at Lounge 021@Swingers in Wetton
Dynamic Choices contacted us with an excellent event to enjoy this August; ‘Kiss the Sky – The Guitar Summit’ on the 31 August 2008.
Enjoy three diverse guitarists, each one a master in his own right, playing an individual set, and for the finale all three will be on stage together.
Brought up in District Six, Cape Town, Saudiq Khan experienced the Cape Culture to the full. At an early age, he was inspired by Flamenco guitar music and studied with a local Flamenco Guitarist.
In 1989 he traveled to Spain and studied with various flamenco aficionados.
Rafael Riqueni and Carlos Bonell, two great guitarists gave Saudiq the inspiration to compose locally, but he models his playing on his hero of the acoustic guitar – Maestro Paco de Lucia.
Richard Ceasar moulds his style on guitar players like George Benson, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny and Mike Stern.
He released an album called ‘Come Back to Me’ in 2007, and the title track, as well as ‘Sweeter than Honey’ is doing well on most popular radio stations.
Guitarist Allou April has been playing in garage bands since he was 16; he was ‘discovered’ by the city’s top gospel bands in the 70s, and soon moved onto the club scene.
He has developed his own unique style of guitar playing, reflecting many eclectic genres within the South African music environment.
He has become a significant voice on the contemporary African and jazz music landscape. Allou has collaborated with outstanding musicians such as Sibongile Khumalo, Robbie Jansen, Hotep Galeta, Joe McBride and Al Jarreau.
His two albums, Bringing Joy and Colourful World have become collector’s items for music aficionados.
