High Tea and Roses at Boschendal Wine Farm
Roses are red, farm skies are blue, high tea is tasty and elegant too.
“But he that dares not grasp the thorn
Should never crave the rose.” ~ Anne Brontë
Any gardener will know that the art of growing roses is a tricky one to master. Delicate, sweet-smelling and charming in their old-fashioned glory, the poetic plants are rather temperamental and require strict pruning regimens and plenty of love and care.
That’s something Jan Blok, landscape architect at Boschendal Wine Farm, knows all about. He’ll give a talk on rose propagation and the numerous varietals of modern and heritage rose species adorning the estate at a series of garden parties from Friday, 13 to Sunday, 15 November. Pre-booking is essential.
Enjoy a delightful meander in the Boschendal Rose Garden, designed by Gwen Fagan, which boasts multiple species originating from the Cape and East Indies. Following the talk, guests can purchase some lovely varieties for their own gardens and then executive chef Christiaan Campbell and his pastry team will serve a sensational high tea. Tuck into a smorgasbord of seasonally inspired, exquisitely crafted morsels, accompanied by live music and fine wine.
