Habitat for Humanity 25-Hour Cyclathon
Kick off 2016 by doing a good deed and getting some exercise in the process
If two of your New Year’s resolutions are to move more and do more good then this event is just in time for you to keep those resolutions alive. The 11th annual 25-Hour Cyclathon will take place at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre from Friday, 29 to Saturday, 30 January 2016. All the proceeds from the event will go to Habitat for Humanity. For more information, email info@habitat.org.za or phone +27 (0)21 657 5640.
There will be stationary bikes at the venue that will be kept going for the duration of the event (25 hours) by volunteers who stop by for a bit of a peddle. During the event there will also be raffle tickets on sale, the proceeds of which will be donated to Habitat for Humanity for building houses. There are some awesome prizes to be won from the raffles. You could walk away with an iPhone 6, an iPad, a camera, an overnight stay at some of the Mother City’s top hotels, tickets for the Cape Wheel or the City Sightseeing tours, as well as various hampers and vouchers.
Habitat for Humanity is a global organisation that aims to build homes for poverty-stricken people, with financial and physical help from the local community. For this particular initiative school kids from Rustenberg, Rondebosch, Bishops, Westerford and Herschel have volunteered to help build the homes. All you have to do is help raise the money and doing some time on a bike.
If you’re worried that you may run out of energy and stamina during the cyclathon, fear not. There will be live entertainment to keep your heart pumping and to get you amped for the challenge. The artist line-up is yet to be announced, and will be released closer to the event.
Grab your mates and family – it doesn’t matter if they are fit-freaks or just prepared to get sweaty for a great cause – and head over to the amphitheatre on the day. Any moral support will also be appreciated.
