Archbishop Desmond Tutu Documentary Screening
See the South African premiere of the first factual film about the life of our beloved Arch and support a good cause while you’re at it
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.” ~ Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu.
Known for his impeccable sense of justice and infectious laugh, Mzansi’s adored Arch Desmond Tutu has spent a big part of his life defending human rights, campaigning for the oppressed as well as leading the fight against HIV/AIDS in South Africa.
Thus, to commemorate his life and highlight the incredible work he and his NGO, the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation, have achieved in the past decade, the non-profit is screening the Children of the Light documentary at the Artscape Theatre on Sunday, 7 September 2014.
This inspirational film is the very first and, so far, the only flick about Desmond Tutu, and it not only chronicles the life of the Arch but also looks at the decade-long search for solutions to the HIV/AIDS and TB epidemics in our country.
The man of the hour will also be in attendance as well as the Sizophila Singers – the Desmond Tutu HIV Foundation’s choir, which is made up of health workers and counsellors. What’s more, Clive Gray’s photographs of young people in the Kommetjie township of Masiphumelele then (10 years ago) and now will be displayed in the foyer; each picture is accompanied by a brief narrative.
Proceeds of the evening’s takings will be donated to the organisation’s Youth Centre in Masiphumelele.
