Alison Moyet Concert in Cape Town
The 80s electro-pop queen hits the Mother City for a one-night show
First it was Bon Jovi, then Bonnie Tyler and now Alison Moyet. Yes, it’s true, yet another 80s hit-maker who once had super big hair is headed for the Mother City to put on a one-night-only concert at the Liqui-Fruit Amphitheatre in Paarl on Sunday, 15 December 2013. This gig forms part of the Cultivaria Summer Concert Series.
Most people will know Miss Moyet from her stint as part of the quintessential 80s duo Yazoo, which had all the necessary ingredients to create classic pop music of the era – serious synthesizers, a deep voiced and diva and one of the former members of Depeche Mode, Vince Clarke – and spawned a string of popular anthems, including ‘Only You’, ‘Nobody’s Diary’ and ‘Situation’.
After the group broke up in 1983, the Essex-born performer went on to pursue a well-received solo career, and produced eight studio albums in total, including her 1984 debut “Alf”, the 1994 release “Essex” and the 2002 that re-launched the singer’s career, “Hometime”. Her latest album, “The Minutes”, debuted at number five on the UK Albums Chart. Now, Moyet, who has long captured audiences with her blues-y, bass-y voice and has paved the way for fellow British female performers, will be in Mzansi to showcase this recent offering alongside the extensive collection of hits that span her 31-year career.
