David Kramer’s Kalahari Karoo Blues Concert in Cape Town
Mother City musical maestro gathers guitar strummers from Southern Africa for exclusive performances at the Baxter Theatre
The enduring musical legend David Kramer is set to take to the Baxter Theatre stage for his performance of Kalahari Karoo Blues, a series of exclusive Cape Town concerts running from Wednesday, 9 to Saturday, 19 January 2013.
Spinning off the success of the 2001 concert series Karoo Kitaar Blues, a performance that featured unknown folk artists playing music and instruments from an era long forgotten, the unconventional show will once again bring African musos together for an intriguing and mind-blowing concert at the Rondebosch theatre.
Featuring the eccentric, and sometimes very old, styles of music from the farthest corners of Southern Africa, the act features guitarists who hail from the Kalahari, the Hardeveld and the Klein Karoo: including Botswanan folk artist Oteng Piet on his segaba (a stringed instrument similar to a guitar) and street performer Ronnie Moipolai – who will perform his unique upside-down guitar playing style outside of Botswana for the first time.
Additionally, David has also invited Mary Kriel, a folksinger and coffee-tin playing artist from Vredendal, and the well-known Sonskynsusters, who have sung with him on previous occasions.
