Cookie Co, home of the original American-style cookie in Johannesburg has come to Cape Town. Their cookie flavours are constantly being updated, with a “cookie of the month,” like milk tart or lemon meringue. Located inside The Boatshed, a maritime heritage building on Thesen Island in Knysna, is The Lofts. This family-owned hotel has just opened Nest restaurant that overlooks Knysna Lagoon. Sea Point’s most popular Greek restaurant, Mykonos, has opened its doors in Claremont. It is located just outside of Cavendish Square on the corner of Vineyard Road and Cavendish Street. EXPLORE LUSH GARDENS AT A WAGON HOUSE
This new eatery is situated in an original wagon house, built in the late 19th century. There’s ample light flowing in from the windows, a large terrace filled with pops of colour and is surrounded by lush gardens. The menu is just as delectable: There’s beef and bone-marrow burgers and scrambled duck eggs on toasted brioche. Café Nova is the new coffee shop in town, and it has opened in style. It has a minimalist, French vibe with black and white chequered floors, plush green chairs, sleek white nooks and small marble tables. It offers everything from hot coffees to milkshakes, with croissants, muffins and panini sandwiches. Plus, every Friday and Saturday you can enjoy some hubbly bubbly and bottomless mimosas.

Artezian is an art gallery, lounge and sushi bar all in one. It features work from artists across the country. COMING SOON: A PASTA BAR
Decadent pastas, fried stewed beef balls, truffle lollipops and a cracking tiramisu are just some of the things to look forward to when Scala Pasta Bar opens on 15 September. In collaboration with Michelin star chef Luciano Monosilio, Scala is bringing the textures and flavours from Rome to Heritage Square.

This spot was once the popular Wijnhuis in Stellenbosch, but is now a “no fuss no muss” wine bar. The veranda stretches around the bar and spills out into the streets, giving it that European feel. LOOK WHO’S TAKEN OVER MZOLI’S IN GUGULETHU
Nothing will ever replace Mzoli’s (butchery and shisanyama in Gugulethu), but there’s a new spot that’s opened right where Mzoli’s used to be. After closing its doors in August 2020, Addis Restaurant is back with a bang. It reopened on 20 June 2022 and brings an Ethiopian dining experience to the heart of Cape Town. The menu caters for almost every taste bud (50% of the menu is vegan), plus there’s gluten-free options, and it’s halaal friendly. Try everything from Doro Tibs (chicken fillet cut into strips, stir-fried with cardamom) to Pumpkin Wot (pumpkin cubes sauteed with garlic and onions, prepared with a fiery Ethiopian spice blend).

Perlemoen is a new, first-of-a-kind restaurant, set in a museum in the Old Harbour. It’s the only eatery in South Africa that focuses on abalone, which is harvested fresh (and legally) from a local farm.
