Voices of Hope Gala Concert at the Baxter Theatre
Prepare to be blown away by the musical talent of Mzansi’s next generation of performers
Music is the beating heart of this country; it fulfils us and brings us together in a way that few other things can. The Africa Voices Trust: Voices of Hope concert is a beautiful, melodic celebration of this fact and of the extraordinary young talent harboured in Mzansi. By supporting the concert, which takes place on Friday, 8 May 2015 at the Baxter Concert Hall, not only will you experience some of the best live acts in South Africa, but you’ll also be contributing to the worthwhile coffers of the non-profit trust.
The eight young artists performing will be accompanied by SAMA Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Vusi Mahlasela, who is often referred to simply as ‘The Voice’ in South African circles. All the featured vocalists are celebrating their completion of the most recent Africa Voices development programme in Opera and Musical Theatre, and this concert marks their graduation, so is set to be a joyful occasion indeed. The show is the graduates’ way of giving back to the trust by raising money for its next scheduled programme so that future students can achieve their musical dreams too.
Led by the esteemed Magdalene Minnaar, the singers will tackle songs from various genres to create a moving commentary on the journey of life, touching on themes of adversity, heartbreak, inspiration and hope. Following the performance, there will be an awards ceremony to honour the students that excelled during the course of the programme.
The Africa Voices Trust was established to nurture emerging local musicians through a holistic mentorship programme intended to raise their performance to international standards. The programme is free for students, and the trust relies entirely on donations and funding to continue its good work.
