Symphony of Dance Ballet and Orchestra Show
Music and dance meet in this spectacular symphony of the arts
If you’re a fan of tutus and trombones, then make sure you don’t miss the Symphony of Dance at the Artscape, which combines dance with melodic orchestral accompaniments. Featuring a combination of six beautiful ballets danced to renowned compositions by Strauss, Rachmaninoff, Ponchielli, Barber and Part, the sensational symphony will be on from Wednesday, 7 October to Sunday, 11 October 2015.
Conceptualised by Artistic Director of the Cape Town City Ballet Robin van Wyk and featuring music by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra, the programme’s highlight is set to be the world premiere of van Wyk’s Romance – a new ballet accompanied by Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto. All piano solos will be performed by famed South African pianist Francois du Toit, so music lovers can look forward to an unforgettable show.
Other ballet premiers include Largo Variation, which is choreographed by Kirsten Isenberg with music by Arvo Part, and van Wyk’s Adagio for Strings, set to Samuel Barber’s evocative composition of the same name. Additional ballet and musical numbers include Johann Strauss’s The Emperor Waltz, with dance choreography by Veronica Paeper; The Blue Danube with choreography by van Wyk; and van Wyk’s ballet Ensemble for Six, accompanied by music from Amilcare Ponchielli’s opera, La Gioconda.
