Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards is Where Family Comes Together

Rotisserie lunch and harvest table has all the trimmings

The Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards restaurant is the kind of place that immediately puts people at ease. From the welcoming open-plan wine-tasting area, filled with soft natural light, to the 20-seater family table, every section has been designed to promote a sense of family and the tradition of sharing meals.

EAT A TRADITIONAL SOUTH AFRICAN MEAL

The rotisserie lunch and harvest table offers a family meal with all the trimmings. Diners help themselves from a selection of succulent rotisserie fare, which includes succulent free-range meat cooked on the spit (think crispy pork belly, tender lamb neck, and chicken), and sides such as home-baked bread and fresh seasonal salads sourced from the farm’s own vegetable and herb garden.

The dining experience is relaxed. There’s an indoor seating area, with glass doors that open onto sweeping lawns, making you feel like you might be sitting in your favourite (rich) auntie’s back garden.

TASTE SOUTH AFRICAN FLAVOURS

Taste local foods that celebrate the many cultures and climates that collided to create South Africa’s unique cuisine. The experience is offered only on set days. The South African Table experience costs R335pp and booking is a must. No two dishes or events are alike, so you may find you’ll come back time and time again for the South African Table.

THE RESTAURANT WAS DESIGNED BY MOKENA MAKEKA

The beautiful restaurant building is really the heart of this family vineyard. Designed in 2012 by celebrated Cape Town architect Mokena Makeka, the building marries a graphic steel exterior with a warm interior with high ceilings, glass, wood and a stylish sense and use of space. It is modern, edgy and hip but also homely and warm, and in harmony with its beautiful natural surroundings.

THE ESTATE OFFERS A DIVERSE WINE RANGE

Leopard’s Leap celebrates its diversity. There are five wine ranges to cater to different palettes, occasions and budgets. The entry-level Lookout Range is perfect for a night in or a family braai. If you’re looking to celebrate, the Classic Range and full-bodied Family Collection is where to point your attention. And let’s not forget those big family milestones, when you’ll want to bring out the signature Culinaria Collection, which can only be bought on the wine farm and includes an elegant MCC.

You can do it in one of three ways: a tasting for smaller groups in which you select any six wines from the ranges, or for groups larger than five in which all taste the same wines, or you can do it virtually. Find out more about the wine tasting here.

GET A SOUVENIR OF YOUR FAMILY OCCASION

There is a lovely curated culinary shop that stocks beautiful local design and food products, including trendy aprons, stylish knives, culinary equipment and recipe books. It’s perfect for buying a gift to commemorate the occasion (if it’s a special one), or for buying some of the useful or pretty things you might see on the tables.
