At Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards, Chef Christiaan Visser puts together the perfect lunch table, from Sundays to Wednesdays, and at the centre of it all is the succulent rotisserie chicken. There are other meats, too, and the restaurant has also added crispy pizzas to the menu.

The idea is that lunch is served family-style, with dishes of salads and vegetables mostly harvested from the organic garden on the farm. It’s perfect for a get-together of family and friends – everyone’s tastes are catered for.
The meats are roasted on a state-of-the-art Rotisol spit, which makes the meat as tender as can be and succulent, too. Besides chicken, there’s usually pork belly or lamb neck, too. For lunch you choose one meat, a side-dish of sweet potatoes with tahini, lemon and herbs; or baby potatoes in a buttermilk, garlic and parsley sauce.

The rotisserie menu lunch is three courses, a meat, a potato side, and salads. Image: Leopard’s Leap
These are then served with four delicious side salads, which could include dishes such as leafy greens with dates, orange segments, mint, feta and a dressing; a vegetable salad including marinated peas, broccoli and curried green beans; and baba ganoush with aubergines, cauliflower and spicy nuts.
The kitchen now also makes wood-fired pizzas. The toppings often change, but they’re always interesting with refreshing combinations, such as barbeque pork pizza with homemade sweet chilli sauce and fresh marjoram, or camembert, caramelized onions, olives, creme fraiche, parsley and garlic.

Tables can be booked inside the restaurant around one of the spacious tables or on the stoep, which is near the lawn and has views of the surrounding vineyards and mountains.
Leopard’s Leap offers five wine ranges to cater to different palettes, occasions and budgets. You can work your way through them in many different formats. There’s a tasting for groups smaller than five, another for groups larger than five, there’s even a virtual wine tasting option – you order the wines first and then do the tasting with an online guide. Whatever your group’s structure and likes, you’ll find the tasting to suit you at Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards.
