Time to tick off some New Year’s resolutions. Whether you want to be more adventurous, expand your friend circle or learn new hobbies in 2023, here’s what you can do this weekend. JOIN THIS SPEED FRIENDING EVENT ON THURSDAY

Making new friends in Cape Town can be tough – luckily cool events like this exist to make it a bit easier. Rust Café and Bar, restaurant and bar in Observatory, will be hosting a Speed Friending event where attendees have the opportunity to make new friends or romantic introductions. LEARN HOW TO MAKE CHOCOLATE 

Cape Town’s favourite chocolate café, Honest Chocolate, is hosting a bon bon workshop. There will be an explanation of how cocoa beans are farmed, as well as a demonstration on how the beans are turned into chocolate. Guests will then be taught how to make and decorate a set of four chocolate bon bons. Note: This will be held at the Honest Chocolate factory, not the café on Wale Street.

SPEND YOUR SATURDAY AT THE MET

A day of horse racing and high fashion? Count us in. Watch some of the biggest names in horse racing compete at the World Sports Betting Cape Town Met, hosted at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse. There will be dining experiences, live performances as well as celebrity guest appearances. Plus, prizes for best dressed: This year’s theme is Mardi Gras.

DO SILENT ZUMBA ON THE BEACH 

The Silent Zumba Secret Beach Series has something for everyone – it’s a mix of a silent disco, Zumba class and beach day. The silent Zumba classes will be held at a variety of secret beaches around Cape Town.

EXPERIENCE SHAKESPEARE IN THE PARK 

The Maynardville Open-Air Festival is back after a three-year hiatus. Shakespeare has been performed in the park for 62 years and this two-month festival is well-loved in Cape Town. The Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will have various performances, including songs of Shakespeare.

RELIVE BEACH MEMORIES AT THIS ONRUS RESTAURANT

EXPERIMENT WITH A GIN ATOMISER 

Gin-tasting works a little differently when you do it at Char'd Grill. You'll be able to smell different gins through an atomiser and do a tasting of your top four. TASTE WINE IN AN OLD FERMENTATION TANK
