Buffet Restaurants in Cape Town

A look at the eateries in the Mother City with some of the best self-service spreads!

Last Update: 4 December 2017

The Mother City has no shortage of delectable dining experiences, self-service spreads included! So, in the spirit of giving you the lowdown on lekker local hotspots that are wallet and portion-friendly, we’ve scoured the city for the ‘best of the buffet’. Whether you’re in search of a hot and spicy Indian curry, a seafood selection, a healthy breakfast smorgasbord or an out-of-this-world African dining experience, we’ve got something for you!

Tobago’s Restaurant at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Cape Town
With an uninterrupted, panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean – and Robben Island visible from the terrace – Tobago’s takes advantage of their location by hosting some of the best buffets in the city. Apart from Radisson Blu’s flagship restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets to its guests and day visitors, the eatery hosts Friday Night Braai to kick off the weekend, and Seafood Grill every Saturday, and the more traditional Sunday Lunch Buffet to end it all off. The three-course buffets are real belly busters and perfect for anyone with a hearty appetite.

Start your weekend off with barbequed meat (done the South African way), Saturdays are reserved for a spread of the freshest catches from the ocean, which also happens to be a mere pebble plop away from your table, while you can expect classic favourites like a carvery selection and Yorkshire pudding as part of the Sunday feast.

Both Friday and Saturday night’s buffets cost R425/p while the Sunday Lunch Buffet is R395/p. Be sure to book a table to avoid disappointment.

Buffet Hours: Friday and Saturday: 6:30pm - 10:30pm. Sunday: 12:30pm - 3:30pm

A selection of cheese is on offer too, from sliced cheddar to blue cheese, goats milk cheese and everything in between. Add some cold meats and salad, and breakfast favourites like Russians, baked beans, and bacon and eggs made exactly how you like them. Grab an omelette at the omelette station, where Chef Calvin will greet you with a friendly smile and cook up a storm with blazing flames and theatrics to make your day. And just when you think you’re all filled up, Chef Calvin introduces you to his famous flapjacks, served with maple syrup and strawberries. The President Hotel
Dine in style at this elegant four-star haunt, which presents a classic Sunday lunch. You’ll receive a warm welcome from the friendly staff who’ll help you settle in before introducing you to the delectable spread on the buffet tables. For starters, there’s hot soup and freshly baked rolls, along with a bevy of salads. These include a blue cheese and pear salad, a crab salad, a Waldorf salad and so much more. This is followed by the main course, which is a variety of roast chicken, sirloin, seafood ragout and all the trimmings: veggies, basmati rice, baby potatoes – delicious! After a comforting main, you can end off with a sweet treat like lemon tart, chocolate mousse or a classic bread and butter pudding. A word of caution: it’s easy to get over-enthusiastic with the portions when you’re helping yourself to the delicious-looking dishes. Start slow or you might not have room for dessert!
