Whether you’re in search of a hot and spicy Indian curry, a seafood selection, a healthy breakfast smorgasbord or an out-of-this-world African dining experience, we’ve got something for you!
BUFFET RESTAURANTS IN CAPE TOWN
Although Café Extrablatt may not be a buffet restaurant, this international eatery with both German and Moroccan heritage, offers a cosmopolitan breakfast and brunch buffet on the weekend in the form of the popular all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast and brunch. Expect anything and everything, from fruit salad, muesli and yogurt, to an array of cereals and breads, including freshly baked croissants breadsticks and pretzels. A selection of cheese is on offer too, from sliced cheddar to blue cheese, goats milk cheese and everything in between. Add some cold meats and salad, and breakfast favourites like Russians, baked beans, and bacon and eggs made exactly how you like them. Grab an omelette at the omelette station, where Chef Calvin will where Chef Calvin will greet you with a friendly smile and cook up a storm with blazing flames and theatrics to make your day. And just when you think you’re all filled up, Chef Calvin introduces you to his famous flapjacks, which is deliciously served with maple syrup and strawberries. Keep an eye out for the dessert options, which changes regularly. These include muffins and breakfast cheesecake slices! The brunch buffet includes all of the above, with lunch included. These dishes change regularly, but patrons can expect spaghetti bolognaise, pasta, cottage pie and much more.
Booking for Café Extrablatt’s buffet breakfast and brunch is essential. Buffet breakfast takes place every Saturday from 8am to 12pm and cost R112.90 per person. Buffet brunch takes place Sundays and public holidays from 9am to 2pm and cost R132.90 per person.

The President Hotel
Dine in style at this elegant four-star haunt, which presents a classic Sunday lunch. You’ll receive a warm welcome from the friendly staff who’ll help you settle in before introducing you to the delectable spread on the buffet tables. For starters, there’s hot soup and freshly baked rolls, along with a bevy of salads. These include a blue cheese and pear salad, a crab salad, a Waldorf salad and so much more. This is followed by the main course, which is a variety of roast chicken, sirloin, seafood ragout and all the trimmings: veggies, basmati rice, baby potatoes – delicious! After a comforting main, you can end off with a sweet treat like lemon tart, chocolate mousse or a classic bread and butter pudding. A word of caution: it’s easy to get over-enthusiastic with the portions when you’re helping yourself to the delicious-looking dishes. Start slow or you might not have room for dessert! This venue is perfect to nestle in no matter what the weather, and you can take in the breathtaking ocean views from your table. You’ll be sure to want to make lunching here on weekends a tradition with friends, partners and family.

Thali Thali Game Lodge
What better way to end your weekend than by feasting to your heart’s content at this remarkable remote game lodge? Every Sunday Thali Thali offers up a spectacular lunch buffet for its guests, day visitors and regular diners. You can expect to be treated to freshly baked bread, a traditional roast, hearty vegetable lathered in cheese sauce or venison pie - depending on what the cooks decide to spoil you with that week. Diners who don’t feel like indulging in the full spread can opt to order off the restaurant’s a la carte menu, and prepare for portions as generous as the buffet table. If you feel like walking off your satisfying meal, you could follow up the buffet with a leisurely walk around the lodge or take in the sites during a game drive within the lodge.
Thali Thali releases the Sunday Buffet menu every Monday on its Facebook page. The price ranges between R140p/p to R160p/p (children can eat for half price) depending on the weekly menu.

The Rockwell Dinner Theatre
Those of you who enjoy a spot of dinner theatre, head to The Rockwell Dinner Theatre in De Waterkant. The theatrical buffet melds traditional Cape Malay cuisine with a musical experience about Cape Town’s history and it makes for a grand place to celebrate a special occasion. Known as ‘Kaapse Stories’, the weekly supper performances feature colourful characters, sparkling harmonies and four-course meals, including a main spread that offers anything from biryani to local boerekos. Do note, the starter course and the final sweet treat – think melktert, koeksisters and malva pudding – are plated. Tickets cost R480p/p (half-price for diners under 12 years old) and include the four-course meal, sparkling wine, or fresh orange juice, and the performance. Booking can be made through Computicket or by calling the venue.

Quarterdeck at GrandWest Casino
Seeking a fun feast for the whole family? With over 100 dishes to choose from, Quarterdeck offers a buffet like no other – according to some it is the best in town! Visitors to the maritime-themed casino restaurant can expect anything from seafood and succulent meats to wood-fired pizzas and pastas. You can even take your pick from the restaurant’s unique noodle bar, where the chef will serve up a custom-made stir-fry with your choice of veggies, meat, chicken or seafood. Though, unquestionably, the pièce de résistance is the ‘dolce stage’, where you can load up on mouth-watering crème brûlée, chocolate mousse, black forest gâteau, chocolate brownies and baked tarts – to name but a few! Prices are currently R250p/p for adults and R195p/p for children, and booking is essential.

This upmarket eatery, located in the heart of Hout Bay, offers a simple but delicious daily spread for breakfast and lunch. La Cuccina prides itself on the fact that everything – and we mean everything – is lovingly prepared from scratch using the best seasonal ingredients. Breakfast boasts a continental harvest table for R15.5 per 100g, and you can also help yourself to muesli for R100 per kg. For lunch, choose between a cold or hot home-cooked meal for R195 per kg – items without a price tag, however, come with extra costs according to their weight. Vegetarians and gluten-intolerant guests will be able to find something delectable to indulge in at this eatery. And for those with a sweet tooth, there’s a sugary selection of tarts, cakes and mousses on offer.

Schoongezicht Grill and Buffet Restaurant
Fancy a feast of traditional South African food with all the trimmings? Schoongezicht offers exactly that Tuesday through Saturday (open for lunch on Sunday) as part of its self-service dinner selection. Expect an array of hot pots, stews, curries, bobotie and the like; not to mention, there’s a sushi buffet every Tuesday and Friday and a Mexican spread at the Brackenfell branch every Thursday! Perfect for laid-back family gatherings, Schoongezicht has two branches, each of which boasts leafy surroundings and offer patrons a country kitchen-style atmosphere.
A buffet meal here will cost between R165p/p and R205p/p depending on the day and cuisine you are going for. Under 10s eat for half the price and it is R25p/p for children under 2.

Leopard’s Leap Family Vineyards
If you’re heading to the Cape Winelands and are eager to try a delicious and surprisingly affordable lunch buffet, stop in at Franschhoek’s Leopard’s Leap winery. The sophisticated estate restaurant offers patrons a deli-style rotisserie spread. Think juicy, tender chicken and pork neck– and a tasty harvest table selection filled with seasonal salads and home-grown organic vegetables. To top it all off, Leopard’s Leap treats diners to an array of freshly baked desserts. The eatery also has a variety of lip-smacking wine cocktails (think a cosmopolitan made with Rosé) that are served from Friday to Sunday and that go beautifully with the view of the Franschhoek Valley vineyards. And if all this isn’t quite enough, you can delight in the occasional live music act and moderate pricing. Kids are more than welcome, and there’s an expansive lawn, small stream and a jungle gym to keep them entertained.

For a fresh, healthy self-service breakfast or lunch offering, make your way to one of the many Melissa’s branches scattered across the city. For breakfast you can expect a selection of smoothies, granola, fruit salad and yoghurt and honey, and for lunch you can sample the spread of lovingly made quiches, salads and hot dishes (tip: the melt-in-your-mouth caramelised onion quiche with baby salad leaves is wheat and gluten-free). There’s also a small kiddies menu if you’d like to bring along the tots. Food from the harvest table is charged on a pay-per-weight system.

Looking for a way to get your weekend off to a scrumptious start? From its perch in Green Point, German eatery Café Extrablatt offers a delicious and equally wallet-friendly all-you-can-eat breakfast every Saturday morning for R112.90p/p. Take your pick from a feast of hot and cold items – think mueslis, fresh croissants, cheeses, bacon, sausage and eggs – and don’t miss out on the innovative omelette station. On Sundays and public holidays, the restaurant serves a buffet brunch – for R132.90p/p, you can get all the Saturday trimmings as well as the lunch dish on offer. Kids are welcome, the atmosphere is relaxed and there’s both a cosy indoor area and an outdoor veranda perfect for dining at any time of year.

Bosman’s Restaurant at the Grande Roche Hotel
All you out there with a sweet tooth, make your way to the oh-so elegant Bosman’s Restaurant for an unbeatable high tea experience. To be served in buffet form, the indulgent affair does require a minimum booking of eight people, but that simply means you have a great excuse to gather friends and loved ones for a romantic afternoon in the Paarl Winelands. The scrumptious spread comes jam-packed with chocolate brownies, tartlets, profiteroles, cucumber sandwiches, Parma ham and Parmesan cheese. Guests can soak up the scenic views from the poolside or in the beautifully appointed restaurant decorated in chandeliers and white tablecloths. Booking is essential, and prices are on the upper end.
On the other hand, there is also an extensive and delectable continental breakfast buffet each day here, for R205p/p. Expect local ingredients, vegetarian options as well as gluten and wheat free substitutes.

The Village Buffet
Curry? No. Sushi? No. Pasta? Can’t decide what you feel like for lunch or dinner? You can have a bit of everything at The Village Buffet, where there is a huge selection of starters and main meals. Indian is the central cuisine here, with a variety of carnivorous and vegetarian curries, rotis, dhania sausage and sambals. However, you can also find satisfying salads; pasta and noodle dishes; plenty of seafood, from sushi to classic fish and chips; pizza; and more. To end things off, there’s a small but divine assortment of desserts, including the heavenly chocolate fountain (my mouth is watering thinking about it!).
The weekday buffet costs R160p/p whilst the weekend buffet costs R180p/p. Children under the age of 10 can eat on any given day for R99 and can enjoy bottomless soft drinks and desserts (watch out, parents!). There is no charge for Under 3s.

This hotel eatery boasts two superb breakfast buffets. One is a healthy continental breakfast buffet and a separate hot breakfast buffet. The cold continental spread includes all sorts of freshly baked goods, a home-made bircher muesli and nutty farmhouse muesli. Fruit is a large portion of the spread, stewed and syrupy or fresh. Should you choose the hot option, you can mix and match savoury choices like wonderfully browned button mushrooms, salmon, sausages, bacon and more. French toast, omelettes and even mieliepap and Jungle oats are other delicious options.
