Ubuntu Cape Town FC To Hit the Ground Running

Ubuntu Cape Town FC are set for their inaugural season as professionals

Ubuntu Cape Town, which survived the drop on 6 May 2018 – the last day of the season following a 3–1 home victory – have another opportunity to prove their worth in the National First Division. But for the team to reap better rewards, they’ll have to be far more clinical in front of goal.

With this in mind, the club’s US-born coach, Casey Prince, has acquired three important players, including 19-year-old Zimbabwean striker, Kudakwashe Mangami and Nazeem Bartman, who has a good track record of scoring and assisting at US College Level.

In addition, ex-Amajita star, Siphelele Luthuli, is expected to shine in the midfield, where his captain, Temptation Chiwunga and Waseem Isaacs also hold the key to success.

While Ubuntu proudly hold onto their "giant killing" tag after twice beating PSL opponents in the 2018 Nedbank Cup, they also made history by fielding four teenagers and have this season, promoted a number of youngsters from their academy.

Club chairman, Mike Jenkins, is regarded as one of the finest gentlemen in the entire league. His demeanour, which often resembles “humanity towards others” illustrates the true meaning of Ubuntu.   

Another interesting factor about the establishment is that they’ve always prioritised education and last year registered the Ubuntu Football School with the Western Cape Department of Education, where young members of their academy study.

In addition, Ubuntu has long-term relationships with communities in Khayelitsha, Philippi and Mitchells Plain, while over the years they’ve offered coaching development courses to coaches around the Mother City.
