If you fondly remember a time when you listened to hip-hop and R&B on your cassette player or Walkman then the Private Affair New Year’s Eve jam is one you don’t want to miss.
By the way, it is nothing to be ashamed of if you’re still listening to these tunes… at Private Affair you’ll find plenty of like-minded folks (though they might be listening on their phones or iPods these days…) ready to rock out to those old-school sounds at the Clock Tower at the V&A Waterfront on Sunday, 31 December.
This event was started to give hip-hop and R&B lovers a chance to dance their hearts out to hits from the golden years of those genres. Dubbed “the party you won’t forget”, this is the ideal opportunity for you to bust out your retro Jordan sneakers you had as a teenager and your baseball cap with the logo of your favourite American sports team.
Remembering the hits
Think A Tribe Called Quest, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G, Ginuwine and more – this is what you can expect in terms of sweet sounds. Private Affair will take you back to a time when you heard Mary J Blige’s “Real Love” for the first time and when Wu Tang Clan dropped their epic hit with C.R.E.A.M. It’s all about the music you used to love growing up.
Warning: Song contains a strong adult theme.
Those familiar with Private Affair events will know that they usually take place at the Castle of Good Hope, so please note that this edition of Private Affair takes place at the Atlantic Imbizo Conference and Function Studio at the Clock Tower at the V&A Waterfront. Tickets are limited and are available from Quicket.co.za for R200/p. Please note that Quicket.co.za charges a booking fee of R5 per ticket.
