New Year's Eve at the V&A Waterfront
Welcome 2017 with a bang at the V&A Waterfront’s annual New Year’s Eve bash and stunning firework display. With a programme packed with live music and street performers, this is one of the biggest New Year’s parties in the city. This year’s celebration will have four entertainment zones with themes of earth, wind, fire and water. Expect to be dazzled by colours and lights as fire dancers, magical nymphs and a towering pirate ship make their way to the Waterfront. There will also be live music performances from South African stars as well as a variety of food trucks and caterers for those who work up an appetite during the celebrations.

Rezonance New Year’s Eve Trance Party Cape Town
Plunge into the new year with the big daddy of electronic dance music fiestas in the Mother City. That’s right folks, the much-anticipated psychedelic Rezonance NYE Festival, which is one of the biggest New Year’s trance parties in Cape Town, is back on the calendar to kick your 2017 into high gear. As always, the four-day jol goes down at Contermanskloof Farm in Durbanville, and organisers have scoured the country and the globe for only the hottest local psytrance, progressive, drum n bass, techno, chill and dub step acts – all of whom will drop beats across both dance floors from Friday, 30 December 2016 to Monday, 2 January 2017. Expect camping out under the stars, stomping in the mud, overall fun, freedom and debauchery.

‘An Evening at the Oscars’ celebration at the Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa
Start the new year like a Hollywood star at the glamorous Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa’s Azure Restaurant New Year’s Eve celebration. New Year’s Eve Concert at Kirstenbosch
Say sayonara to 2016 while twirling and whirling to hypnotic beats from South African music legend Johnny Clegg and pop rock collective Slow Jack. These two famous acts are billed to perform live in concert at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden to celebrate New Year’s Eve 2016. Taking place beneath the starry night skies on scenic open lawns, the show invites audience members to bring along blankets, picnic baskets and bubbly, and usher in 2017 in laidback style.

New Year’s Eve Party at Spier Wine Farm in Stellenbosch
Bid 2016 farewell and spend New Year’s Eve in Stellenbosch this year at the historic Spier Wine Farm in the Cape Winelands. The Boland-based farm is hosting a family-friendly NYE dinner and party with something for all ages. The evening starts off with a welcome drink and a snack before guests tuck into a three-course farm-to-table meal in a communal setting. Chef Annie Badenhorst is preparing a fantastic spread that includes potato gnocchi and parma ham followed by smoked bone marrow and ox tongue. The main meal will be a noisette of lamb and dukha lamb tail with pickled vegetables and for dessert: blueberry mousse with litchi sorbet. Whistle Stop at the Baxter Theatre
Celebrate the start of 2017 with a heart-warming play starring Ameera Patel and Jaques de Silva. Whistle Stop tells a tale of love and unspoken feelings in a charming performance that features “a man, a woman, a bench and all the hidden thoughts that we think and never allow ourselves to say”. The performance earned a Standard Bank Silver Ovation Award and a PANSA New Writer’s Award, so it’s definitely one to watch.

New Year’s Eve at Nederburg with the CTPO
This year, the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra will be welcoming 2017 in style with a beautiful concert in the sophisticated surrounds of Nederburg Wine Farm. Conducted by Brandon Philips, with Sue Pyler as MC, the performance includes guest acts by stars Brandon October, Melanie Scholtz and Sterling EQ. New Year’s Eve at the Grande Roche Hotel

New Year’s Eve Dinner at Benguela Brasserie & Restaurant at Lakeside Lodge and Spa
Celebrate the start of 2017 with an elegant four-course dinner at the Benguela Brasserie & Restaurant in Sedgefield.
