Join a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, visit a bat cave or pick ripe strawberries

There is a lot to keep you entertained whether you put on your mask for a day out or choose to stay in. From live performances all over Cape Town and a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party in support of CANSA to breathtaking hiking trails with natural hidden gems, take your pick this weekend.

VISIT AN ADORABLE MINIATURE 7DE LAAN SET

Gansbaai couple Coenie and Christa Van Dyk have dedicated the last 10 years to building a miniature town in their backyard, complete with a version of the popular television show 7de Laan’s set. Entrance is free for this miniature 7de Laan set

FLY KITES WITH PEOPLE FROM AROUND THE WORLD FOR A GOOD CAUSE
10-31 October
Fly your kites high from 10-31 October in a bid to raise money for Cape Mental Health. Activities include competitions, kite-making workshops, interviews with kiters around the world and entertainment pieces featuring comedian Dalin Oliver, musician Jarrad Ricketts, and drag performer Manila von Teez at the first virtual Cape Town International Kite Festival.

JOIN IN ON A MAD HATTER’S TEA PARTY IN SUPPORT OF BREAST CANCER
24 October
Put on your zainest hats and head over to McPherson's Restaurant, Wedding & Functions Venue for a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. Expect unique stalls, breakfast and tea, plus awesome prizes up for grabs and fascinating talks from guest speakers. All proceeds will go towards the CANSA fund in support of those battling cancer when you visit the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

TIGER’S MILK IS WELCOMING IN GERRY LIBERTY
Every Sunday
SA pop-singer Gerry Liberty is taking the stage at Tiger’s Milk on Kloof this Sunday, 25 October. Enjoy some of his crowd-favourites while digging into a feta, avo and bacon pizza. And add in a half-priced cocktail, beer or wine during the Pick Your Poison happy hour between 4pm and 6pm to top off your Sunday afternoon at Tiger’s Milk.

DAVE STARKE IS PLAYING HIS BRAND NEW ALBUM
Friday, 23 October, and Saturday, 24 October
Starke’s brand new indie-folk rock album, Shifting Boundaries, will have you feeling all the emotions. Plus, his laid-back, soulful voice will be accompanied by The Cottage Club owner Bill Knight. Bill Knight and his band The Old Dogs will be back to play again on Saturday, 24 October. Feel free to bring your favourite booze and snacks for two live shows at The Cottage Club.

CALLING ALL BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND BEE GEES FANS

This Friday prepare to celebrate some of Bruce Springsteen's power-house classics with Me and Mr Green on the Café Roux stage. But if the Bee Gees are more your vibe, the talented Gericke brothers and their 1925 Band are paying tribute to the Bee Gees on Saturday at Café Roux.

JUAN CASEY IS PLAYING LIVE AT NEETHLINGSHOF

South African country singer Juan Casey has prepared a top-notch set list to help you relax and recharge this Wednesday. If you can't make it in person, the shows are still being streamed online via their Facebook Page. Plus, learn how to make Neethlinghof's famous pizzas at home or dive into their flammkuchen, margarita, prosciutto or crispy garlic pita during Neethlingshof's Wine Down Wednesday sessions.

GET READY FOR A WEEK-LONG HIKING TREAT

The Trail Fit SA leaders have three stunning hiking trails planned for you this week. One takes you to a bat cave, another basks in the sunset, and the last hike explores a three-tiered, waterfall. Keep in mind each hike has its own difficulty level. All you’ll need are your hiking shoes, a water bottle, a cozzie – for those brave enough for a dip – and sunscreen for your weekend hiking adventures with Trail Fit SA.

STANLEY SIBANDE IS PLAYING HIS BRAND NEW SINGLE

Unwind with some cheesy nachos, a beef burger, craft beer and the acoustic voice of Stanley Sibande. Think Matthew Mole, Jimi Hendrix, and Bob Dylan all mixed into one. He’s just released his brand new single Rivicog and will be playing it live this Friday at Darling Brewery's Live Music Fridays.

NOW IS THE TIME TO PICK THOSE STRAWBERRIES

At Redberry Farm in George, the strawberry fields are open for families to stock their baskets full with bright red, ripe strawberries. Bring the kids to run around the largest permanent hedge maze in the Southern Hemisphere while you kick up your feet and enjoy a strawberry-inspired lunch. The Red Shed restaurant serves up a delicious Strawberry Rosé Gin Fizz. There are also mini-train trips and pony rides at Redberry Farm.

UMAMI SUSHI HAS A NEW VEGAN PLATTER
Every Monday to Sunday
Umami Sushi at Imhoff Farm has revamped its menu to include a weird and wonderful new platter. Their vegan platter with beetroot and beans or mushrooms and lentils wrapped tightly inside a maki roll may sound strange, but it is delicious. Topped with vegan Japanese mayo and dipped lightly in soy sauce and you've done your taste buds a favour. Plus, there's still loads to do from paintball, laser tag and horse-riding to strolling around the Werf Pop-Up Market at Imhoff Farm

ENJOY GUIDED TOURS WITH EXPERT COMMENTARY

Learn from some of South Africa’s gardening giants with nine virtual guided tours. You’ll have a drone’s view of spectacular gardens designed by Leon Kluge – winner of the Gardening World Cup in 2013. Take in along lush vegetation, cascading waterfalls and living arches at the McGregor Magic Virtual Garden Festival.

The V&A Waterfront’s Watershed has reopened its doors, which means you can once again shop 100% local from over 150 stalls at South Africa’s biggest market for art, design craft. You will also find creators of beauty brands in the recently added beauty section within the V&A Waterfront’s Watershed.

The 2020 De Hoop Vlei MTB Experience is back with some exciting changes. This year riders will enjoy a laid-back cycle through jeep tracks, single tracks as well as limestone and protected vegetation areas. Each ride will lead you to panoramic views of the reserve and to a whale spotting location. You’ll also be able to rest up with inclusive dinners, lunches and breakfasts as well as a complimentary massage and a goodie bag when you finish the De Hoop Vlei MTB Experience.
