There are a whopping 35 public pools in Cape Town, each with something distinct like volleyball or tennis courts, picnic areas, aquarobics, water rehab classes, and more. See details on all of them below (including when they’re open; it changes depending on the time of year).

TWO POOLS AND PICNICS IN OBSERVATORY

There’s a 33m main pool and a 10m shallow pool for kids to splash around in. A picnic area, spectator seating, and a kiosk selling snacks make this a favourite with southern suburbs locals.

GUIDED REHAB CLASSES AT WESFLEUR

Wesfleur’s 50m main pool also hosts guided water rehabilitation classes for people with pain and disabilities. For recreational purposes, there’s also a playground and picnic areas.

ESCAPE THE BEACH CROWDS IN STRAND 

Just steps from the beach, Strand’s 50-metre-long indoor pool is heated, and has raised spectator seating and a snack kiosk. 

Opening hours: Monday - Sunday, 10am - 6pm. The pool is open exclusively for pensioners from 8am - 10am on weekdays and 8am - 9am on weekends

VOLLEYBALL & JUNGLE GYMS AT BONTEHEUWEL

What sets this public swimming pool apart is its volleyball court. There’s also a splash kiddies pool and jungle gym.

SPACIOUS POOLS IN LANGA

At 30 metres long, the Langa Public Swimming Pool feels spacious. There’s also a shallow pool for kids to splash in.

SLIDE, SURF AND SUPPER IN MUIZENBERG

This popular public pool with waterslides is set right next to beautiful Muizenberg Beach, a surfing favourite in Cape Town. Picnic areas and plenty of restaurants across the road invite longer visits.

TENNIS, VOLLEYBALL AT HANOVER PARK

Hanover Park Swimming Pool also houses volleyball and tennis courts. There’s a 33m-long main pool and 0.5m deep kiddies splash pool.

BEACH AND BRAAI AT MNANDI

Mnandi Resort has camping areas, braai facilities, several pools, water slides, a playground, and picnic areas. Set right next to Monwabisi Beach, you can go for  walks and make sandcastles too.

OLYMPIC-SIZE POOL IN GOODWOOD 

Goodwood’s Olympic-size, disability-friendly main pool is perfect for professional swimming training, while a kid’s pool and 0.3m deep splash pool make it ideal for children too.

ANCIENT WALLS AT WOODSTOCK: TRAFALGAR 

Did you know that Trafalgar Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with one of the last parts of an 18th-century French Redoubt fort?  The park has a main pool, kiddies pool, play area and lawn.

50M LENGTHS IN KHAYELITSHA

Khayelitsha boasts an impressive 50m long swimming pool for avid swimmers, a spring board diving pool that teens will enjoy, and a kiddies splash pool.

Opening hours: 1 November 2025 - mid-April 2026: Monday - Sunday, 10am - 6pm

WYNBERG HAS AQUAROBICS 

Beyond the main pool, kiddies pool, kiosk, and picnic area, Wynberg Swimming Pool also offers a playground and regular aquarobics classes.

OCEAN VIEWS AT SEA POINT

Sea Point Swimming Pool has four pools - main, diving, fun and kiddies - which all use filtered sea water. Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, it’s set at the end of the idyllic promenade.

Opening hours: Year-round, Mondays 12pm - 7pm; Tuesdays to Sundays (including public holidays) 7am - 7pm

WATER SPORTS IN PAROW 

Parow Valley boasts a main pool that’s ideal for water sports, being deeper than most at 3.3m. There’s also a kiddies pool, grassy areas for picnics and games, and a playground.

WARMER THAN MOST! TURKISH BATHS

The historic Long Street Baths boast warmer waters than most public pools. The indoor Turkish Baths and swimming pool centre includes a kids splash pool. 

Opening hours: Year-round, Monday - Sunday 7am - 7pm

BLUE DOWNS: HEATED POOL WITH DISABLED ACCESS 

Blue Downs Indoor Swimming Pool is heated year-round and offers an Olympic-sized pool and disabled access. 

Opening hours: 1 October 2025 - mid-April 2026: Monday - Sunday 10am - 6pm
