Awesome activities to make school holidays less taxing for parents

It’s their favourite time of the year, but nearly two weeks off can be tough on the parents. We’ve made a list of activities for the whole family to enjoy for the March holidays, from a slime workshop to Mardi Gras in Cape Town.

ART, PASSION, MUSIC AND MAGIC
Witness the spectacle of hundreds of artists, singers, dancers, and performers in sensational costumes, parading alongside dazzling floats through Green Point during the Cape Town Carnival. It’s always a hit with kids: the sound, colour, and activity will enthral young ones of all ages. The 2020 theme is a particular treat for music-loving kids: Sounds of South Africa. From marimba and marabi to uhadi and riel, you can enjoy the sounds, music, dance and art of South Africa at the Cape Town Carnival.

A CHALLENGE TO ALL THE MESSIS AND RONALDOS OF BONTEHEUWEL
Thrive Social Development is a community-based organisation that serves the community of Bonteheuwel. They are on the search for the best five-a-side soccer squad at the second-ever edition of The Pride of Bonteheuwel. Watching the games is fun because the stakes are high; the winners get ultimate bragging rights, R8000 prize money, a trophy and medals at The Pride of Bonteheuwel.

MAKE YOUR OWN GLOW-IN-THE-DARK SLIME
Amy Jade is ten years old and loves the colours, textures, and scents of slime. Along with her mum, she’s been perfecting her slime recipes and selling homemade slime at very affordable prices. Now, Amy is hosting a slime workshop at her home in Grassy Park where you can learn how to make your own slime. Your imagination is the limit when it comes to texture, colour, and smell, and you’ll have high-quality ingredients and expert recipes to work with. Think cookies-and-cream scented stretchy slime, colourful unicorn slime, or even glow-in-the-dark slime with glitter.
When: Saturday 29 February and 28 March, 1pm–4pm

CARNIVAL RIDES AT A FAMILY FESTIVAL 
Come get your fill of food, fashion, carnival rides, bands, music, prizes and more during a three-day family festival. The Southern Mail Wynberg Family Festival has replaced the Community Chest Carnival, which at its peak, attracted over 70,000 people. The organisers are all about bringing a sense of community and family to the Southern Suburbs. You can expect local talent, live bands, and entertainers, and your ticket supports NGOs, NPOs and charities.

WATCH CRICKET LEGENDS FOR FREE
Watch cricket legends like Jonty Rhodes, Dave Callahan, and Alan Donald battle it out in the spirit of competition and camaraderie. As the name implies, the Over-50s Cricket World Cup is about bringing together the world's best cricketers over the age of 50 to test their skills against one another. Come down and show your support to some legends of the game and enjoy a day of cricket, fun, food and festivities at the Over-50s Cricket World Cup.
