Dave Neto’s passion for motorcycles began when he watched his dad ride British bikes; now, he owns the only motorcycle museum in South Africa. Helderberg Motorcycle Museum has over 200 meticulously-restored bikes ranging from the 1910s to the 1970s, with iconic brands like Harley Davidson and Kawasaki. And it’s free for kids under 12.

For the past 15 years, Dave has spent his life restoring these beautiful machines, many of which are in perfect museum condition. His passion shows in every part of the museum, from the well-organised, in-detail displays to the motorcycle-themed restaurant.
“Anything that is unusual that I don’t have, I must have,” said Dave during an interview with Garage Route 21 South Africa.
Some of the classic bikes on show include brands like Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, BMW, Harley Davidson and so much more.
Bike lovers will geek over the helmets from the 1920s and 1940s and the classic petrol pumps from brands like Esso and Shell. The nostalgic atmosphere is complete with old enamel signs and oil cans, all carefully displayed to take you back in time.

The on-site restaurant makes it a great Sunday drive destination, too. The walls are adorned with classic pumps and posters of bikes. You can sit inside near the motorbikes, or outside under the pergola with lovely views. The menu has easy everyday food like breakfast, sandwiches, burgers, milkshakes, and so more.
Bookings for admission to the museum can be made on the Helderberg Motorcycle Museum website.
Tickets are R100pp for adults, R50pp for senior citizens, and free for kids under 12. The museum also offers special discounts for biker crews and groups. Please note that the museum is a cashless venue.
