Hidden along the West Coast is a magical village filled with pixies, fairies, toadstools and wonder. At Jacobsbaai’s Pixie and Fairy Village (run by Mama Pixie, an avid lover of all things magical), you can walk through paths of mystic creatures and enjoy the outdoor the garden nursery.

While this might be a great activity for kids, the Pixie and Fairy Village is beloved by adults too with its toadstools to sit in and garden nursery. Hidden away in Jacobsbaai, you can walk through lanes of wonder surrounded by attention to detail from ‘Pixie’ Maritz, or “Mama Pixie” as she’s more commonly known around the village.
Growing up on Mpanza farm in KwaZulu-Natal, Mama Pixie spent countless hours in the rivers and forests looking for mythical river fairies she’d heard about from Zulu folklore. She continued to be in awe of the magic and turned her passion into a career.

At the village you’ll find great effort has gone into making it a truly magical experience, from the ponds with fish and lily pads to the carved-out trees for the fairies to sit in. Within the nooks and crannies you’ll find miniature pixies sitting on the rocks, as well as a giant Gulliver statue from Gulliver’s Travels. You can even sit in the giant toadstools.
Walk around the village and see the small houses being lit up by fairy lights, as well as real plants and trees growing amongst the pixies and fairies. If you’re feeling peckish after your adventuring, head to The Bean and Leaf Restaurant next door where you can try West Coast Paella or a savoury Chicken A La King waffle.

Adults can enter for R30 while kids and pensioners can get in for just R20. You’ll often find adults without children visiting to experience the joy of the mystical they grew up with: The village evokes a feeling of childlike wonder. You can also sit out in the garden or buy flowers and plants from the nursery.
