Africa Day Celebrations at Artscape Theatre

Honour our continent’s rich heritage with a musical tribute by a few of its talented performers

If you're looking for how to celebrate in 2018, head over to our piece on this year's African First event

Join millions of Africans and people of all nationalities across the globe in celebrating the Mother Continent on Saturday, 24 May 2014 at the Artscape Theatre’s music concert. The festivities, which take place the evening before Africa Day (25 May) feature a line-up of awesome acts from South Africa, Angola and Morocco.

Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the 1963 founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) – now known as the African Union (AU) – and a reminder of the solidarity that exists between the 54 member countries. The continent’s rich heritage, diverse cultures and languages are acknowledged with a host of events and celebrations that span from Cape Town to Ireland and Oman to New York on 25 May each year.

This year’s annual do at the Artscape Theatre gives the stage to Angolan singer-songwriter Adamu da Silva, Moroccan musician John Hassan and South African Idols season 2 runner-up Poseletso Sejosingoe, all of whom will be serenading the audience with songs that honour of Africa’s heritage. Audiences can also expect to be charmed and delighted by master of the marimba Bongani Sotshononda and his Indigenous Orchestra as well as by a few magical melodies performed by the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.

Come one and come all because there’s possibly no better place to celebrate our beautiful continent than at its very pretty tip.
