Honest Chocolate and the Secret Gin Bar has a new swanky neighbour
This restaurant is permanently closed. You can check out this new restaurant called One Park.
Former colleagues from Cape Town restaurant Janse & Co have banded together once again to create a brand new pop-up eatery. Oxalis Eatery is the swanky new upstairs neighbour to artisanal chocolate shop Honest Chocolate and the secret Gin Bar on Wale Street. Here you'll find delicious creations from chefs, Lisa Knipe and Liezl Odendaal and a warm welcome from front of house Jade Konz and Yoraya Nydoo.
MADE JUST FOR CAPE TOWN
“Oxalis Eatery was born out of necessity, a passion for our industry and Cape Town,” Jade Konz told CapeTownMagazine.com. After the Covid-19 crisis left them all unemployed, the four chefs found an exciting opportunity in troubling times. “We decided to create something for ourselves, a place we would want to go to and with food and wine, we would want to enjoy.”
THERE'S A DISH FOR EVERYONE
Their extensive menu has everything a foodie would want. "It's a menu where you can bring your vegan and gluten-free friends, and still find something for those who like meat – we had a wagyu burger on the menu this first week," Jade Konz told the Daily Maverick.
TRY A BIT OF EVERY DISH
To make sure you get a taste of everything, bring a friend or two and share as many plates as possible. Konz told us that the fried kimchi cauliflower with lime and coriander sauce is a definite crowd-pleaser. If you're feeling like something out of your everyday diet, she recommends you give the seaweed salad with dune spinach a try. It comes with pickled carrots, spring onion and a sprinkling of toasted sesame seeds.
AN EVER-CHANGING MENU
As Cape Town starts heating up Oxalis Eatery is planning on creating some new salads and a raw fish dish, “which will be very much inspired by the season’s local produce and the suppliers we work with” Konz explains. “We have blackboard menus which means that dishes will change often” she adds. Keep an eye out for any new dishes via their Instagram or Facebook page.
