Big, Loud And Exciting… That’s The Stellenbosch Airshow

Bring your picnic blanket and enjoy a day of precision aerobatic displays, the Silver Falcons, a skydiver flying the biggest SA flag ever and much more

The 2019 Stellenbosch Airshow is back to provide non-stop adrenaline and entertainment on Saturday 23 March.

The airshow is dubbed FASHKOSH which is a play on FASH, Stellenbosch’s official airfield name, and Oshkosh, the biggest annual airshow and gathering of aviation enthusiasts in the world, which takes place at Oshkosh, Wisconsin in the USA.

WHAT CAN YOU SEE ON THE DAY?
Gates open for spectators at 8am with visiting aircraft flying in until the cavalcade procession at 10:15am, whereafter the skydivers open the show. Some of the highlights include the South African Airforce Silver Falcons, a Boeing 737 airliner flypast, the first public display in South Africa of the Pilatus PC24 small business jet and for the first time in the Western Cape a skydiver will jump with the biggest South African flag ever. Team Extreme will thrill with their precision formation aerobatic display, and Working On Fire will demonstrate its firefighting helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft that you’ve seen hard at work around the Cape. World-renowned airshow commentator Brian Emmenis and Capital Sounds will bring you informative and entertaining commentary.

REFRESHMENTS
A large variety of refreshments will be available including pizza, gourmet burgers, fish and chips, coffee and soft drinks and Stellenbrau will be offering beer on tap in the beer tent. A number of local wine producers will be present and selling their wares.

THE VENUE
Bring your blankets and picnic baskets and spread out on the large lawn at the Stellenbosch Flying Club on the R44 between Somerset West and Stellenbosch. Hats, caps and sunscreen are the order of the day since the public area is mostly in the open. Browse some displays and vendors housed in hangars. Due to the obstruction of views, umbrellas and gazebos are not permitted.

TICKETS TO THE STELLENBOSCH AIR SHOW
Tickets are available for R150 for adults and R100 for children. Under- fours enter for free. Numbers are limited and very few tickets will be available at the gate, so get yours online.

THE CLUB
The Stellenbosch Flying Club was established in the '70s to promote recreational aviation. Currently, there are about 600 members and the field accommodates around 200 aircraft. The club has a strong sense of community and also hosts events such as a Ladies in Aviation Day, an annual Children's Charity Toy Run and an annual Reach For A Dream Day where gravely ill children are taken flying.

The club also accommodates Working On Fire and Leading Edge Aviation fire-fighting helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft during the Western Cape fire season. The club operates a flight training school where those interested in aviation can enrol for a private pilot's licence. The club has a restaurant that is open to the public and renowned in the area for its location and good value meals.
