A weekend of yoga, dance, meditation, music and martial arts awaits at SpiritFest in Swellendam from 5 to 8 March 2020. All ages are welcome at this festival which happens every two years.
MORE THAN JUST A YOGA FESTIVAL
Start your day bright and early with chanting and stretching, then head to the SpiritFest Bazaar for snacking, chatting and shopping to the sounds of acoustic music.
The activity tents are where you can take part in yoga, dance, hula hooping, tai chi, meditation, and more. It’s also where you can catch talks by local and international experts about health and wellness, spirituality, conscious living, recycling, packaging and being green.
Finally, end the day by dancing to live music. The day starts at 5am, and the music ends at 10pm. You can plan how and where to spend every hour of every day by keeping an eye on the schedule of events.
ROAM THE ATTRACTIONS
Everything is within walking distance and if you want to break from the program, you can enjoy the natural environment. Swim in the river, hike to a waterfall, or walk the trails of an indigenous forest in the Somerset Gift farm valley which is set in a nature reserve.
You can book a massage or reiki session with a healer or health practitioner. You can also practice your hula hooping or slacklining skills while connecting with nature.
YOU WON’T GO HUNGRY (OR GET DRUNK)
Fourteen caterers and food stalls have been planning and preparing to provide menus that will cover everyone’s needs. You can expect vegetarian and vegan curries, wraps, smoothies, superfood bowls, pizzas as well as coffee and tea bars, and an ice cream stall to keep you refreshed. Something that makes this event different is that it’s 100% alcohol-free, so hydrate with kombucha, kefir, water, organic coffee, and raw juices instead.
ATTENDING SPIRITFEST 2020
Admission costs R30–R1100 and last time, in 2018, tickets sold out. You can book online. Various glamping options are available at an extra cost and regular camping, 200m from the parking area, is included in the entry fee. At the venue, there’s 24hr security and a place for parking. On Thursday, 5 March, gates open at 2pm and on Sunday, 8 March, gates close at 3pm. For more information, contact the organisers directly on info@spiritfest.co.za. Please note that cell phone network is very limited, so it's also a great phone detox.
Back in the city, how many have you tried of these yoga studios, or how about free yoga?
Classes start at R50 with The Om Revolution for their weekly yoga schedule.
