Ubuntu And Burgers For Good At New Eatery RobinHood

Every bite helps the people of Cape Town

Craft beers and gourmet grub, by the people, for the people. Plus food just tastes better when you know you're helping your own people.

Mid-Kloof Street is the hip Cape Town ‘hood that’s overflowing with exciting new places. Something fresh has moved to the place of Café Topolino (Italian for Mickey Mouse), which has operated since before the Checkers supermarket opened.

Welcome to RobinHood Burger & Grill. So much more than your new one-stop for great food, drinks, atmosphere and friendly service; with every bite, you donate to the “charity of the moment”.

According to legend, Robin Hood was an English archer who lost everything he loved during a brutal raid. After that, he made a pledge that no one should suffer at the hands of fate, and that is where RobinHood Burger & Grill’s spirit of ubuntu comes from.

THE SPIRIT OF UBUNTU
Ubuntu is an African term that embraces the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity. RobinHood supports businesses and charities that uplift, employ and provide hope for the needy.

RobinHood’s “Charity of the Moment” is sometimes an instant donation and sometimes support for a specific project. For example, they are donating to The Gift Of The Givers, a disaster response NGO, to support victims of the Khayelitsha fires.

RobinHood also works in conjunction with the StreetSmart initiative where patrons can make a voluntary donation of R5. A part of RobinHood’s profit on each meal goes directly to StreetSmart. R1 of every Robinhood Lager, provided by CBC breweries, also goes into the charity kitty.

OODLES OF ATMOSPHERE
The ethic of giving lends ambience and soul to the space. When you think of Robin Hood, you might imagine an archer and his Merry Men wearing green tights roaming Sherwood Forest. The unique furniture, a third of it made from natural tree stumps, provides seating space inside and outside. The bespoke light fittings are made from recycled wood and glass bottles and jars.

You can hide out in the inner courtyard, or on the new deck on Kloof Street, or in the Mandala Room.

THE MANDALA ROOM
This small and cosy seating space features shades of sea-green complimenting dark wood interiors with large windows facing the leafy courtyard and outside alley. The walls display the people-helping-people mandalas made up of human icons standing united in a circle. These mandalas represent ubuntu – the spirit of sharing and helping others grow. Robin Hood is synonymous with giving, so it stands to reason that the concept connects the English hero, Robin Hood, with our African heritage of ubuntu.

THE MENU
The RobinHood menu is filled with tales, mediaeval facts and plenty to choose from including burgers, juicy grills, salads, sides, desserts, craft beers, cocktails and detox waters. The grass-fed beef patties and free-range chicken all tie into the purpose of providing top quality locally-sourced food. Vegetarians, vegans, carnivores, low-carb lovers, health nuts, students, and kids will all find something here.
