Did you know that you don’t have to be retired to buy in a retirement estate?
Set to be built in Franschhoek with French-inspired architectural design, Lion’s Rest is made of single-story, private residences for a lock-up-and-go lifestyle (perfect for dreams of later-life travel). There’ll also be a fully-stocked trout dam and lifestyle centre with physios, chiropractors and more.
Phase two is launching on 7 March 2024 at 1pm, and buyers get R500 000 off on launch day. Make sure to browse the price list and sign up to qualify for the discount on Lion's Rest website.

Franschhoek was listed as one of the “World’s Greatest Places 2022” by Time Magazine and is a serene place to retire. Image: Lion’s Rest
Any person can buy a house in Lion’s Rest (even foreign investors or local professionals). The law only stipulates that at least one occupant of the home is over the age of 50.
This means that you could buy a house for yourselves and your in-laws or parents, or as a family home if someone in your household is older than 50. And you wouldn’t have to wait long. Phase two of Lion’s Rest has an estimated completion time of quarter four 2024.
Interested in purchasing as an investment? That’s okay too. The projected monthly rental is between R35 000 to R55 000.

The homes at Lion’s Rest are plot and plan. This means that two agreements are signed: One for the plot and one for the home.
There are many advantages of plot and plan agreements, like no transfer duties (on a property like this, you would usually pay between R350 000 to R450 000 in transfer duties), lower maintenance costs, and you can claim depreciation on taxes.
See this helpful diagram that explains plot and plan financing on the Lion’s Rest website (scroll down until you see the “Plot and Plan Buyers Guide”).

Phase two of Lion’s Rest offers three and four-bedroom customisable homes (ranging from R5.495 to R6.495 million). These will be single-storey lock-up-and-go homes with vineyard and mountain views. Besides the trout dam, there’ll be walking trails and a picnic area.
The estate is also pet-friendly with high-speed fibre connection, 24-hour guarded security and optional loadshedding solutions.

Franschhoek was listed as one of the “World’s Greatest Places 2022” by Time Magazine, and it’s easy to see why. Lion’s Rest is only a four-minute drive from the Franschhoek Wine Tram and the Franschhoek Village Market. La Petite Colombe, La Motte wine farm and several art galleries are all less than 10 minutes away.

Retirement is vibrant at Lion’s Rest, which is near some of the most esteemed art galleries, wine estates and fine dining restaurants. Image: Lion’s Rest
Lion’s Rest launched by the same company whose property developments tend to sell out fast: The Sage sold out in 45 minutes and The Braemar sold out in just 4 minutes. They're also launching Rijks Village, a secure lifestyle estate in Stellenbosch.
