Nothing feels more like summer than freewheeling on an open road by the sea. Well, Promenade Mondays are kicking the season off with a bang. Back in session every Monday, you can join this sunset social with your skateboard, scooter or rollerblades and shred down the Sea Point promenade with this laidback group.

Promenade Mondays is celebrating its 11th anniversary in 2023. It started as a way for skaters to connect and share, and later turned into a movement reclaiming the road after the ban of skateboarding, cycling and rollerskating on the Sea Point Promenade.
Anyone is welcome to join, as long as you have something to push, roll or skate. Whether you rock up alone or with friends, this community is always happy to see new faces (a great way to make new friends and break the cliquey stereotype of Cape Town).

The sunset social kicks off with a skating session at the Queen’s Beach parking lot (close to Saunders beach), followed by a welcome message and community announcements from the founders. From there on, it’s an open road…
The group skates down Beach Road all the way to the Sea Point Library in Three Anchor Bay (almost a 3km route). It’s a pure adrenaline rush flooded with freedom and that epic feeling of being a part of something special. Everyone can skate and hangout at the library parking lot (there’s even a downhill road for the dare devils). If you’re a beginner, they are open to helping you learn some new tricks.
Once the group has reached the library, you are welcome to skate as long as you want and go home when you’re ready. Image: Promenade Mondays
It’s no secret that Cape Town is notorious for being cliquey. But, we’re here to say that it's not always the case. Movements like Promenade Mondays are a great way to get to know new people and make friends. After the skating session, the group heads to Mojo Market for drinks and dinner, amplifying the movement’s family feel.

Promenade Monday is available: October 2023 to April 2024, every Monday from 5.30pm
Find it: Meeting point every Monday is at the Queens Beach parking lot in Sea Point (just around the corner from Saunder's Rock Beach)
