Hout Bay Fire

Here’s how you can help in Cape Town

Last Update 13 March 2017

Over 2000 people have lost their homes after a fire destroyed around  650 homes in the  Imizamo Yethu Informal Settlement and Hout Bay surrounds on Saturday,11 March 2017 said fire and safety spokesperson Theo Layne.

Helicopters assisted firefighters by dumping water in an attempt to dampen areas to prevent further spread of flames in the high winds. Residents fled with their belongs in the early hours of Saturday to a nearby road to escape the raging fires.

Here are some options on what you can do to help. There are numerous organisations that are providing aid and where you can visit online to either donate time, money and/or necessities that are urgently needed. Animals affected by the fire are being cared for by the Domestic Animal Rescue Group who is also in need of dog and cat food.

Contact The Thula Thula Hout Bay organisation to help with relief!

Have a look at our donations list to see what you can donate to help!

You can also contribute by helping the SweepSouth team who are helping with relief in Hout Bay. Go to sweepsouth.com/get-voucher/ and select the amount. You can use the recipients email address: donate@sweepsouth.com

If you are interested in putting together a box, please put items such as; nappies of all sizes, tape, toiletries, wet wipes, and non-perishable food items. Organisations are desperate for volunteers to assist with sorting, boxing and distribution. They are operating from Ambleside Primary School, 120 Milner Ave.
