Here’s how you can help in Cape Town
Last Update 13 March 2017
Over 2000 people have lost their homes after a fire destroyed around 650 homes in the Imizamo Yethu Informal Settlement and Hout Bay surrounds on Saturday,11 March 2017 said fire and safety spokesperson Theo Layne.
Helicopters assisted firefighters by dumping water in an attempt to dampen areas to prevent further spread of flames in the high winds. Residents fled with their belongs in the early hours of Saturday to a nearby road to escape the raging fires.
Here are some options on what you can do to help. There are numerous organisations that are providing aid and where you can visit online to either donate time, money and/or necessities that are urgently needed. Animals affected by the fire are being cared for by the Domestic Animal Rescue Group who is also in need of dog and cat food.
