Spend the day thrifting and trying new foods this weekend
Weekends call for days spent strawberry picking at Redberry Farm, walking through vineyards, riding up Table Mountain, finding secret waterfalls or immersing yourself in a gallery or two. This week gear up for a week(end) packed with things to do and places to visit.
After a short break, the Fort Food Truck Market is open for business. Entrance is free, and your fur babies are welcome to come along. The Fort Food Truck Market offers biltong, boerewors rolls, curries and more South African classics. Plus, they've got gourmet burgers and a whole range of delicious Mexican food. There is also a stage for eclectic live music at the Fort Food Truck Market.

Shop quality items – old and new – and try out food stalls that sell delicious pastries and home-brewed coffee stands all while supporting local businesses. The Spice Yard is an eclectic modern venue that is home to various interesting small businesses and the monthly Misfit Thrift and Gift Fest.

A real daredevil activity the kids will love to do this weekend is to race around the largest permanent hedge maze in the Southern Hemisphere at Redberry Farm out in George. While the little ones dare to escape the giant maze, parents can kick up their feet and enjoy a strawberry-inspired lunch. The Red Shed restaurant serves up a delicious scone tea and more at Redberry Farm.

Get out the house this weekend with an adventure that's not too far away from home. The Cape Point Vineyards walk is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday, plus you can bring a picnic blanket and stock up on snacks from the wine shop inside. Take the chance to soak up a 360-degree view of the mountains, the fynbos, the grapes and the Atlantic ocean all in one vineyard walk.

See engaging exhibitions about African culture, from oral storytelling and protest music to an evocative story about a family evicted from their home during apartheid. This Bo-Kaap family's experience is told through a photographic exhibition in the building that used to be their home. Go further back and learn about artefacts and fossils. All of these exhibitions are on at one of the collections of Iziko Museums. There are strict Covid-19 policies to ensure your safety when you visit the Iziko Museums.

Hike to a collection of natural rock pools in a stunning valley known as the Steenbras River Gorge in Gordon's Bay. The Crystal Pools hike starts off relatively easy; however, you'll end up working up a sweat by the end of it. But don't worry, you'll get to take a break near one of the fours pools for a refreshing swim. All you'll need is your hiking shoes, a bottle of water, sunscreen and a bathing costume to hike along with Trail Fit SA.

Visit one of South Africa's oldest towns, Riebeek Kasteel and experience its art, culture, and good food. Serious collectors and spirited enthusiasts will love the variety of exhibitions on show. The current summer exhibition called No Holds Barred features intricate ceramic sculptures from various artists. You can view the catalogue online. Take the weekend to browse legendary South African artist Sam Nhlengethwa's colourful figurative and collage works.He’s sharing an intimate look into his love for his family and jazz from his personal vinyl collection. Break up your date with Nhlengethwa's The Still from Life exhibition with a coffee and toastie at the café when you visit the Rupert Museum.

Treat the kids to some edu-tainment by taking them to Two Oceans Aquarium. They’ll get to see some of the 8 000 wonderful sea creatures at South Africa’s most famous aquarium.
