It’s a high-tech, high-fun scavenger hunt that takes team-building to the streets

Want to explore the city in a fun and interactive challenge? The Gallivanting Goose offers the ultimate team challenge, combining an app-driven scavenger hunt that will test your brain, brawn and creativity all at once.

As founder Larissa Sparg, explains: “Everyone who plays, regardless of seniority, position or personality, is on equal footing when taking part, as the game brings out all sorts of characteristics and skills one does not usually get to see in the workplace."


HOW THE GAME WORKS
Games take place at various locations in and around the city, including the V&A Waterfront, Kirstenbosch Gardens, Hout Bay and The Company’s Gardens. A game takes between 90 minutes to 2.5 hours, depending on whether it is a driving game or on foot, and each requires a minimum of 15 players. A group is divided into teams, and each team is given a smartphone pre-loaded with data and the game app. Once the app is opened, there’s a list of challenges, along with a leaderboard and a live picture feed to keep track of the other teams. The game starts and off you go.


HOW TO WIN THE GAME
The game is facilitated from a central point at the chosen location by The Gallivanting Goose. Each challenge is allocated points, which the team gets upon submitting the correct answer. Points are deducted for wrong answers. Bonus points are added for creativity, innovation and other set criteria, which are explained before the game. It’s amazing how ingenious you can get when there’s only one challenge left and you see your rivals pass you on the leaderboard. Many teams push the boundaries, for instance, one team even convinced a real-life policeman to be part of its picture, hoping it would earn them extra points. Plus, you get to learn more about the city, sights and streets you live on but don’t always explore.


FUN AND LAUGHTER EVER AFTER
Further value (and laughs) comes at the end of the game, when teams receive the photos they took during the game. This is when teams come together to share their stories and reflect on the activities, from the strategies to the mishaps and victories, while also getting a chance to laugh at themselves – and colleagues. This is one game that allows you to explore your own creativity and watch your colleagues do the same in a fun, safe and interactive way.


TICKETS AND DETAILS FOR THE GALLIVANTING GOOSE
Standard games cost R450p/p for a 90-minute session, which includes the use of a fully-loaded smart device and the game app. Game time does not include the time required for the pre-game briefing or debrief at the end.
